My point was; Ian Wright seems to cop a fair bit of blame when it comes to the circumstances of SWP's departure from City. We will probably never know the in's and out's (I can't see SWP writing an auto-biography) but even with the worst advice, you still have to make a decision for yourself, based on your own feeling and instincts SWP chose to go to Chelsea. Maybe it was the lure of London? Maybe he thought he would be playing and winning things? Maybe he wanted mega-dosh? Maybe all three. No matter the reasons, you can't keep blaming Ian Wright without acknowledging the fact that SWP is as much to blame as anybody

By whom?

| East Stand Massive (19/10/2006) Well what of these rumours that SWP was in tears in the dressing room at Macc, and told the players he was being forced to go. By whom? They're rumours, mate. You can't prove he was, anymore than you can prove it was Ian Wright's doings that made him leave. How could anyone force someone to sign for another club against their wishes? I'm dealing in facts and those facts state that SWP asked to be granted permission to speak to other clubs, Chelsea offered an extra £1m and he was on his way

So the twat Ian Wright says that SWP may have to reconsider his future and look for another club as he thinks Jose doesn't rate him? What a nob. It was YOU Ian and your little playmates that convinced SWP to leave a club that loved him, regular first team footy and a blossoming England career. You sir, are a twat. Blimey, i agree with ESM. I make you spot on with this one. He was already in the England side, now he struggles to get in the squad. I think he was made to listen to his dad too much. He should have told him to butt out. |

I'm with Noddy (Bassman, not so long ago you were having a HUGE rant about kids of just 16 having minds of their own and not allowing themselves to be 'controlled' by their parents - make you're sodding mind up!), SWP probably did receive advice from his Dad but ultimately it was his own decision to leave the club. You talk about him like he was some YTS trainee without a clue about how the big leagues work but he was a fully grown adult and obviously also believed it was in his own best interests to join Chelsea. Stop bloody putting on the blame on Ian Wright! Had Ian Wright advised his son to put his foot in a fire, would you blame the Dad for his advice or the son for being a complete idiot?

But you know that Ian wright would have told him all about the bright lights, big city, winning trophies, big money - and he bought into that, and in the process lost his soul, not to mention his England place. If it was me, i'd have said "Chelsea? phhhht. I'm staying here at City where i'm a fookin legend in the making" |
