| gallagheresque (17/08/2007) Bentley or Downing. i know who i'd rather have in my team.bentley or: barry, downing, dyer, smith, neville who wants to play in the U21s? for a regular prem first team player, it's a massive step down. he was entitled to have a summer break if he wanted.

| i cant believe beckham is still playing. he's getting paid a ridiculous amount by galaxy and he flies to europe to play a game and flies back to play another the very next day.. how can he give them any kind of performance.

I totally disagree with that. Representing your country is representing your country, no matter what the level, and is the best way to catch the eye of the management while playing with players who are also likely to make the step up. Players these days have seen the likes of Owen and Rooney fast-tracked into the senior team at a very young age, and think they deserve that too, even when they are only averagely talented. Most young players need to serve their apprenticeship in the U21s and earn their chance in the senior team. Anyway, I doubt Bentley was even left out because of his refusal to play for the U21s. McLaren has already shown he is quite happy to go cap in hand to players who have previously snubbed the international setup.

And i totally disagree with you too i dont see the point of the U21s, sure, if it was actually U21s playing in it getting experience and showing there potential then fine. But in reality, it's full of 23 year olds who arent good enough for the full team yet and likely wont be in the future either. many of whom have a couple of years first team prem experience and have very little to gain by going to it. I also dont believe mclaren takes much notice of it and has taken this decision in order to not disrespect pearce.
