My Dad refused throughout his City supporting life of some 75 years to set foot on the hated ground. In 1957 we lived in Eccles and there was to be a charity match between the Busby Babes and an England all star team including the likes of Frank Swift, Billy Wright, Stanley Matthews , Tom Finney , Nat Lofthouse etc . I wanted to go with all my mates from school but he said NO, my Mum for once intervened and I was allowed to go provided I only watched The All Starsand not the other team.

In the 1960's when I was learning to be a PE teacher by watching Kes repeatedly there was a competition between the PE colleges which was played on League grounds. I was at ST John's in York ( Yes Timps) and after defeating Sheffield at Hillsborough, amatch which my Dad attended, we were drawn at OT against the De La Salle college at Middleton. My Dad said I was to be injured and not play , but I did play . He refused to come and watch even though he worked in the City Centre and could easily have nipped out for an hour or so. We won and subsequently played at The Hawthorns, and at Ninian Park in Cardiff. He came to both those matches.

you do not mess with Jack Reacher

No.  You never know in the heat of the moment, what you are capable of though.  He was lucky.

my own opinion is that I won't set foot inside the place unless City are playing.

That's what I said.

And that includes England games for me. I'd feel tainted.

I can't believe you wouldn't go there to see your country play.
