| Coleman named Real Sociedad boss | Coleman has been out of work since April when Fulham sacked him | Chris Coleman has been appointed the new manager of Spanish second division outfit Real Sociedad. The 37-year-old Welshman will be unveiled by the Basque side in the next few days after his appointment by club president Maria De La Pena. Coleman is thought to have been recommended to De La Pena and Sociedad by their former manager John Toshack. Sociedad were relegated from La Liga last season for the first time in their history, finishing 19th out of 20. De La Pena said that Coleman's contract would be "objective-based", with the "main aim" of immediately restoring the club's top-flight status. The club's former coach Salva Iriarte will work alongside Coleman after being given the post of sporting director. The move is subject to the new board being ratified on Saturday. Coleman has been out of football since he was sacked as Fulham manager in April. He spent four years as Fulham boss, but paid the price for a seven-game winless streak that left the club hovering above the relegation zone.

| What's Spanish for Numpty? Someone really ought to tell them. At least there's no chance of us getting him now.

Given the trigger-finger presidents in Spain, Christmas would be seen as an achievement.
