What people want to believe is up to them! Not everybody who follows a religion is going to war or wants to make you believe them. My sisters boyfriend is a devour catholic but has never once mentioned god to me in 3 years. He also pissed his sides at ricky gervais bit about the bible in the animals stand up.

I remember having a conversation with my ex who claimed to be a catholic even though she never went to church...merely because she was christened...church of england whatever i don't understand the different religions, but she wasn't a follower. She got pissed off with me! Especially when i then went on to say i disagree with "trick or treating" because it is just glorified begging..which it is and is a disgrace. We finished that night! Although there was one more arguemnt which i won't go into.

Made me think how glad i am that i wasn't christened, it means i have no label. I am free to choose what i am.

I firmly believe though that it is each to their own, everybody is free to believe what they want. If Bassman wants to believe that he knows mani, fine. If he wants to believe that a giant bass guitar is in the sky controlling hos destiny, fine

Football is my religion anyway

Althought I have common descency and courtesy I can never respect a person who is a believer or a god head.

You may as well worship Father Christmas, atleast he's jolly. No, better, the Easter Bunny, he brings choc, I like choc.

No chance I could have a girlfriend who believes in all that, I'd spend the whole time taking the piss out her.

Straw has a point. Here in France they banned all religious symbols in schools--muslim veils , jewish stars , christian crucifixes --the lot. After some initial screaming and shouting everyone just got on with it. No problem. Only in the UK will there be aguments ad nauseam.

you do not mess with Jack Reacher

France got it right. This would never catch on GB though because it would go against the Isles policy on being terribly polite to all people.

Govt would rather kick an old war veteran out of his house for not making rent, give the vet's house to an immigrant family of 9 along with NHS cards and wedge of cash. The family may also seek compensation for having to step over the veteran on the doorstep.

You'll excuse me if I have just another turn with this thread.

And you have concrete facts to base this on?

Why? What's the problem with someone wanting believe in something comforting. The fact is that these days very few people actually fully follow the bible or whatever, even christians accept it as not being truth. To say you can't respect someone for their beliefs shows an intolerance, which isn't good.
