My other pet hate is people who say "I don't really listen to their stuff but you've got to admit it would be great to see them live." when talking about:

Tina Turner

Rod Stewart

Rolling Stones

Robbie Williams

Tom Jones

Why FFS? Were you a sheep in a previous life or something?

Beatles

Oasis

I might take issue on the Beatles, although they did produce a fair amount of dross, but Oasis lost it after the first album imho. They were better covering old Pistols songs before they became a Lennon tribute band.

Beatles produced a LOT of dross. Oasis just had nothing more to offer. Classic example of a band who only have enough tunes for one album. Attitude, not talent, is what sold the rest.

It's pointless arguing Oasis' corner against you, although they have produced some excellent music in my opinion over a long period of time. Yes there have been poor spells, but that happens in any walk of life, particularly when fortune mean you nolonger have the need to work let alone the hard background money has relieved.

A lot of people of my generation (of course not all) like Oasis, because they were the band of their youth.

I don't see the appeal of Joy Division. It does nothing for me, but people 10 years older than me worship their work.

As for the Beatles, what dross are you talking about exactly?

A pet hate of mine is when you ask people what music they like and they say 'Oh, a bit of everything really.'. Now, I'm all for having a diverse taste in music but that response is just a way of saying that you don't really like music IMO. No matter how diverse your taste, everyone has a favourite genre.

Hard to defend "Oh bla di oh bla da" for starters I'd have said. "Yellow Submarine" for seconds.

A lot of McCartney's work was too shmaltzy for me tbh but there's still plenty of fine stuff in the catalogue I'd say.

Might be an unpopular choice this but I'm going to nominate the Chili Peppers.

I was a huge fan of their work upto and including Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik, but since then, for me at least, they've turned into a bit of a bland stadium rock band. It might be them getting older but all the fun, funky attitude of the Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Mothers Milk era has gone.

I'd suggest you are picking nits Cloudy. Of course there were a few throwaway joke songs and some crap that Ringo wrote, but the vast majority of their stuff was top drawer from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road. Before that there were gems to, but most of it was preordered lovey dovey music to get their foot in the door. After Abbey Road McCartney took over and yes I agree, Schmalz was the word to describe most of that.

Good spot. Couldn't agree more!

Glad someone agrees. Uplift Mofo... and Mothers Milk are top albums IMO. Now they just seem to be a band for middle aged accountants trying to be 'cool' and teenagers who've never looked at their older work.

MF: Yes, Oasis are popular cos they appealed to that particular generation and lad culture. They had a few good tunes, they made an album. That should've been it as far as I'm concerned. Every album since the first has been a regurgitation. They aren't inspired. They aren't genius. As for the Beatles, everything Cloudy said and more.

Cloudy: I take issue with the Rolling Stones...
