Manchester City striker Darius Vassell is eyeing a comeback before the end of October after it was initially thought he would be out until the end of November because of a knee ligament injury he picked up in August. (Various)

Will be nice to have another striking option available to us. I wouldn't mind seeing three up front at home sometimes so that we could use Vassell's pace. Especially against teams with aging defences

I like Vass alot, he may not be the best finisher but he's infinitely better than Dickov and puts in just as much effort. He's also a different type of player to Corradi and Samaras.

Got to agree with you there Our Tommy

Vassell is always keen to defend from the front and closes down defenders and chases a hell of a lot of lost causes. Will be good to have him back

Lets face it, if everyone is fit then Dickov is at best fourth choice and in the right circumstances would rank sixth behind Ishmael and young Sturridge as well.  Still strikes me as the strangest transfer SP has made (given we still had Andy Cole at the time), first time I can remember when anyone bought a  player just because he had a good attitude in the dressing room......

I would certainly pick Vass over Dickov. Neither seem to be able to finish but Vass, when fit, has pace in abundance.

Yeah, odd one really. But at the time Cole was injured and I don't think he thinks Sturridge is ready yet, remember he sees him in training every day and we don't. He probably felt he needed the cover, as it turned out he was probably right.

I like Vass, he gives us an extra option up front, like Pace !!

I like Vass too, any club needs a variety of types of strikers and I think he does a good job as the small nippy forward even if he doesn't get as many goals as we would like to see.

I thought that was why KK bought Sibs?!

Reckon Vassel and Samaras will make a decent pairing one day.

If we can get a good few games with Vassel and Samaras up front I think they could make a decent pairing.  It will also promote a bit of competition for team places which we lack at the minute as I reckon 90% of the squad know they will either be playing or on the bench due to a lack of options.
