Tough shit SWP, and lets face it, Barton ain't good enough.

Then what's the point in picking him for one game, then never using him again when he has done absolutely nothing wrong in the (small) chance that he had?  This isn't just Barton bias because he's a City player, either, it goes for all the other one cap wonders.  If you have no intention of ever using them when it matters, then don't pick players for a meaningless friendly.  They are either a part of the squad until someone better comes along or they show themselves not to be up to it, or they are not in it at all.  Picking them once then ignoring them afterwards is a waste of time for all concerned and can only be detrimental to the squad as a whole.

With regards to Barton, there are other players available who are better in terms of all round footballing quality, but what Barton has is that 'edge' that many don't. IMO McClown picked him against Spain as a shot across the bows to the players who under performed last summer, but it was a friendly, it didn't mean anything, do you really think he'd have the guts to pick him for a qualifier?

I also feel that the assault charge wouldn't have helped his case.

No, I really didn't think he would.  Or ever will again.  Problem is, I bet the underperforming, overpaid nancy boys also know that as well as any of us, they've got him wrapped round their little fingers as far as team selection is concerned.

I think the FA and the sponsors also have a say in it. Do you think Barton is the sort of person those old farts at Soho Square would pick? Could you see McDonalds using Barton in a promo campaign?

I can't be arsed with the England squad at all.  Most of them underperform, crap tactics, too many rags, crap 'yes-man' manager, and arsehole bumbling buffoon FA man who appointed him.

Can't be bothered with it all.  They ain't gonna qualify, neither.

I don't support England in the way I used to, that's for sure.  In a way, I actually hope they lose, but that Micah plays well, and he is one of the few players that survives a cull of all the egos surrounding the team.  Well I can dream!

No, yet they have no problem with money-grabbing pricks and prima donnas like Lampard, Ferdinand and A Cole around the place, which says it all about the way the game is these days.

Indeed, it seems quite strange to me when some people have to ponder the 'club vs country' debate.  No contest as far as I'm concerned.

let's face it, MacLaren is a shite manager.  He was shite at Middlesborough, but got lucky in Europe, one semi decent season - even though they got butchered by Seville in the Final.  What exactly are Maclarens credentials???

Barwick is a bellend who openly tried to get Phil Scolari as the next manager, but when he saw sense and decided not to, then he turned to bloody MacLaren!?!?!?

players like Lampard and Gerrard are superb for club, but shite for country.  Why????

Why does Ferdinand get a game, should be Woodgate.

And, they are still paying Sven!?!?  that just beggars belief.
