I don't mean in a Gary Neville/Peter Crouch kind of way, but the bloody tabloids are trying to stir up crap within City yet again.  Is there likely to be any truth in it, or is it the usual abysmal level of 'journalism' we have come to expect?  When will they give it a rest?

This is from the Sunday Mirror...

STUART PEARCE is facing a players' revolt as well as a fight for his job at Manchester City.

City's stars are upset with "Psycho" for what they see as his lack of support for shamed defender Ben Thatcher. Sunday Mirror Sport also understands the players have not been impressed with Pearce's transfer dealings.

Big-money buys Georgios Samaras, Bernardo Corradi and Didi Hamann have flopped, while David James and Andy Cole, both sold to Portsmouth, have been badly missed as City have struggled in the league and crashed out of the Carling Cup to Chesterfield.

But it is the treatment of Thatcher that has really upset the dressing-room. The player's brutal elbow in the face of Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes deservedly earned the leftback an eight-match ban and £150,000 club fine. But Pearce's apparent backtracking over the incident has amazed Thatcher's team-mates.

It is understood that Pearce initially told Thatcher he'd be picked for the game after the Portsmouth clash, but then did a U-turn after a discussion with chairman John Wardle.

That led to jibes on the training ground about who's picking the team - the manager or the chairman.

For me that's just the Mirror being the Mirror and seeing a story where there isn't one. 99.9% of their stories are bullshit, I doubt this one is any different.

Mr Badger (25/09/2006)
For me that's just the Mirror being the Mirror and seeing a story where there isn't one. 99.9% of their stories are bullshit, I doubt this one is any different.

That was my immediate reaction on reading it, maybe they are determined to milk the Thatcher 'story' a little bit longer?  Perhaps City should threaten to sue them again?

Georgios Samaras has hit back at suggestions all is not well inside the Manchester City dressing room.

Despite the weekend win over West Ham, only City's third in 17 matches, speculation has surfaced the Blues players have been left distinctly unimpressed by Stuart Pearce's handling of the uproar surrounding Ben Thatcher's disgraceful challenge on Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes.

It has been reported some figures within the City dressing room believe Pearce did not back Thatcher enough during a disciplinary process that left the former Wales international with an eight-match ban and an added 15-game suspended suspension hanging over his head.

However, fresh from his two-goal man-of-the-match display against the Hammers, Samaras insists the Blues camp is united.

"We are a family in the dressing room," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"The mentality of the players is excellent. We have a lot of talent and we help one another.

"We know we must improve on our results and we are determined to do so together."

Samaras has been an inconsistent presence in the City side since his £6million arrival from Heerenveen in January, with Pearce admitting the Greece international still has much to learn.

However, it appears the wise words are being heeded, especially as Samaras has been told to become more aggressive around the penalty area.

"The manager and coaches spoke to me about being more aggressive," he revealed.

"I feel good about myself and I believe in myself to get goals in games because I have been doing it in training."

Obviously a slow news day. You can bet that rag, the Mirror, would have been the first paper to criticise Pearce if he had defended Thatcher too much. With crappy papers like the Sun and the Mirror you simply can't win. They put whatever spin they want on things and they don't care if it's true or not. As Badger says, they make up most of their stories. The 1% they don't make up, they get wrong anyway. I don't read newspapers anymore. I don't need a bunch of lazy wankers to make up stories for me. I can do that perfectly well myself.

Oh, and they're still calling him 'Psycho'???? Nice to see that the Mirror is as up to date as they ever were. Perhaps someone ought to ring them and tell them JFK has been assasinated. That ought to give them something to talk about for a week or so. They'll probably try to blame Thatcher for that too.

And another thing. Samaras, Corradi and Hamman have flopped have they. Well Sam is scoring goals for fun now he's playing in the right position, Corradi is a true worker and looks like he's going to be popular at City, and Hamman only played a couple of games. Jesus fucking Christ, the Mirror really are on form.

From skysports.com

Samaras slams unrest claims

Georgios Samaras has rejected claims there is unrest inside the Manchester City dressing room.

City picked up a much-needed win on Saturday with Samaras scoring both goals in the 2-0 victory over West Ham.

The win lifted the pressure off City boss Stuart Pearce after a mixed start to the new season.

Reports have suggested some City players are unhappy with Pearce for his handling of Ben Thatcher's suspension for his ugly challenge on Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes.

However, Samaras has moved to hit back at the suggestions and insists all the players are singing from the same hymn sheet.

"We are a family in the dressing room," Samaras told the Manchester Evening News.

"The mentality of the players is excellent. We have a lot of talent and we help one another.

"We know we must improve on our results and we are determined to do so together."

Samaras revealed he has been told to be more aggressive by Pearce and the Greek international believes he is finally finding his top form.

"The manager and coaches spoke to me about being more aggressive," added Samaras.

"I feel good about myself and I believe in myself to get goals in games because I have been doing it in training."

Big-money buys Georgios Samaras, Bernardo Corradi and Didi Hamann

I would hardly call Corradi and Hamann "big money buys"

Didn't notice that bit. What was Hamann, £400k tops, and didn't Corradi cost £1mill?

Hang on, for us, they are big money buys.

There clearly wouldn't have been quite enough bile and vitriol aimed towards City without them deciding that Samaras, Corradi and Hamann are all 'big-money flops'.  Just goes to show how poorly researched their articles are.  Yes, a handful of City fans may have moaned about each of those players at some point on radio call-ins or something, but there is no way they can be described as flops after so few games.

Just goes to prove what a pile of unsubstantiated shite the Mirror really is.

The Mirror prints bollocks, pure bollocks. If SP HAD defended Thatcher to the hilt, (and lets face it, his challenge was indefensible), the club and SP would have Been torn apart by the Mirror for breeding a thug culture.
