All of this weekend's Serie A and B games have been suspended tonight after the killing of a policeman during crowd trouble following Palermo's victory over Catania in the Sicilian Derby. Shocking stuff.

This isn't unprecedented, someone swore at Eastlands at the start of the season and Corradi stopped playing for the rest of the season.

Just read about this on the BBC. Really pisses me off that the English still have a reputation for football violence whereas by comparison we are now one of the best behaved group of fans in the world.
Violence is rife on the continent and in South America. Racism is prevalent, especially in the Italian and Spanish leagues yet we are still portraye by a lot of people as the bad boys of supporters.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

I agree with every word of this. (Well, perhaps there was an 'and' I didn't entirely approve of but near as damn it.)

We have taken the brunt of Europe's jibes for our hooliganism and it's just not true any more.

BTW... The green one... Corradi... Had me in stitches. (The joke that is. Not because I was sitting in row ZZ of the South stand during one of his 'efforts' on goal.

Agree again.  British (actually maybe just English) supporters always get tarred as hooligans, but the worst violence has been on the continent for years and years.  This is an absolute tragedy, no excuses, no reasons, no nothing.  I hope that the authorities take a hard line and stick to it (SB made a good point in another thread that sometimes they may make a stand for one game and then cave in).  Can you imagine if this happened in England-all clubs would be banned for years-no doubt.

I'm not saying English supporters are saints (far from it, and there is a long way to go, but it is linked to our drinking culture), but we are far from the worst in Europe, and it's long overdue that we weren't the scapegoats for everything.

*Every post from Benny tonight comes with a pissed up warning.  It makes sense to me right now, but if it doesn't in the cold light of day then  I apologise.

Booze is ace though isn't it? I've had a few weeks off, but it is still great.  Yay booze.
