Frank Lampard has hit back at Joey Barton after comments about England players' performances at the World Cup.

Manchester City midfielder Barton was scathing about players who had brought out autobiographies following the tournament in Germany.

Barton was also critical of the midfield partnership of Lampard and Steven Gerrard, claiming that they needed a ball each in order to succeed together.

Lampard concedes he was disappointed by his tournament performances, but believes Barton's comments were ill-advised.

"I don't think Joey should talk about me and Steven. You shouldn't talk about other players too much," said Lampard.

"Unfortunately, I had six games where I didn't hit the back of the net and they were at the World Cup. It can happen.

"I didn't let my country down. It's as simple as that."

Some might disagree with you there Frank, you were rubbish in the world cup !! A real let down !!

Why shouldn't he talk about other players? Fat Frank does, he just decided to try and make money out of it by doing so in a book.

Lampard seems to think that because he is an untouchable for Chelsea, he is immune from criticism when he plays for England.  Bollocks, Frank, if you represent your country and play that badly, then accept people saying so on the chin, like a man.  How fooking typical that he makes the comment that he 'didn't hit the back of the net' in the World Cup and thinks that that is the be-all-and-end-all as far as the judgement of his performances are concerned.  You're a fooking midfielder Frank, there is supposed to be much more to your game than shooting on sight from 20-30 yards out...

A recent issue of Four Four Two magazine said that Joey Barton should expect a frosty reception from the other England players when he gets his call up. FFT claim texts have been exchanged by the England flops regarding Barton and his big mouth and this seems to bear this out.

Fat Frank had a shit World Cup as did most of the England players. They underperformed and let themselves down. They should take a long hard look at themselves and put it right on the pitch rather than try to put Joey back in his box. Fat Frank's attitude is typical of the overpampered prima donnas that fucked up at the World Cup.

Lampard hits back at Barton jibes
Frank Lampard and Joey Barton
Lampard (left) has hit back at Barton's crticism
Frank Lampard has hit back at Joey Barton's criticisms of the Chelsea midfielder's England performances.

Manchester City midfielder Barton was scathing about Lampard's World Cup and claimed he should replace Lampard in England's midfield.

Lampard told the Times: "There are a lot of players fighting for a place but they don't come out and say something.

"They get their heads down and keep fighting. That's what Owen Hargreaves did when he could have said things."

Barton, who has been tipped to figure in England's squad next month, was critical of England players like Lampard who brought out autobiographies in the wake of England's poor showing in Germany.

The outspoken City midfielder also said Lampard and Steven Gerrard could not play together in the same midfield, and claimed they needed a ball each to succeed.

You shouldn't talk about other players too much

Chelsea's Frank Lampard

Lampard said: "I don't think Joey should talk about me and Steve Gerrard, that probably says enough.

"Joey mentioned that he was running at six in the morning in Dubai on holiday and then he wondered if me and Stevie G were doing the same.

"When I read that, I thought: 'I was doing that when I was 11. That's the difference.

"I've been training my socks off and I think Stevie G has as well. That's what you do.

"Maybe Joey Barton has found that but I've been doing that for a long time.

"As a professional - and I know I'm talking about another player now - you shouldn't talk about other players too much."

The relationship between the pair could be tested if they are both named when England boss Steve McClaren picks his squad on 2 February for the friendly against Spain.

Here is a bit more, what a twat. It wasnt just his failure to score, but all round performance that got people's back up.

Mic backs Bart to end tease time"

MICAH RICHARDS reckons Joey Barton will put an end to his dressing room teasing — by joining him in the England squad.

Richards, 18, admits he has been ribbing his team-mate since winning a call-up to Steve McClaren’s squad for November’s friendly in Holland.

But he is convinced Barton, 24, will also get the nod for next week’s clash with Spain.

Defender Richards said: “Joey deserves it. His performances have shown what he can do so fingers crossed he can get in.

“The hard bit is staying in. So he could get in and stay in and I could drop out. But hopefully we can both get in and stay there for a long time.”

Richards thought it was a wind-up when McClaren first rang him. He also admitted being like a starry-eyed kid when he joined up with the squad.

But he added: “I play against these players week in and week out now and feel a part of it. So hopefully, when the team is announced, I’ll be back in.

“I feel I have done enough to stay in. But if I don’t get the shout I’ll just keep working and then maybe I will be picked the next time.”

Err, who picks the fooking team??

STEVE McCLAREN is facing opposition from senior England players today over his plans to hand controversial Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton a first call-up to the full squad.

Barton has enraged several high-profile members of the England squad by criticising their decision to release books in the aftermath of last year’s failed World Cup campaign.

Stars including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney were among those targeted by Barton for attempting to cash in following England’s dismal showing in Germany.

McClaren now faces a dilemma over whether to name him in his squad for next week’s friendly against Spain and risk creating a division among his players, or leave the 24-year-old out to preserve harmony within the squad.

“I’d never write a book unless I’d done something,” said Barton of the England stars who rushed into print in the wake of the World Cup. “Maybe if I achieve everything I want and I win trophies, I’ll write a book.

“But England did nothing, so why were they bringing books out? ‘We got beat in the quarter-finals. I played like s***. Here’s my book.’ Who wants to read that? I don’t.”

Barton has been in impressive form and McClaren has long been an admirer of the combative Merseysider, marking him out as a future international on several occasions.

On form alone, Barton’s inclusion in the squad is beyond question. And with Owen Hargreaves recovering from a broken leg, there is a feeling it is now or never for Barton to receive a call-up.

But Barton’s disciplinary record, along with his habit of speaking his mind despite the consequences, have left McClaren in a difficult position.

Silly fucking question SB, the England team sponsors pick the team.
