The Scousers have been making lots of noise about "justice" for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster and also about Kelvin McKenzie who has withdrawn his "apology" for the Sun laying some of the blame with the fans.

Obviously there were a lot of lessons learnt after Hillsborough and the way crowds are managed today has totally changed as a direct result of that, however, am I the only one who thinks McKenzie has a point?

Also, I get a bit fed up of the Liverpool fans always blaming other people and not themselves. They seem to suffer from an acute case of selective memory syndrome when it comes to Heysel as well.

Any thoughts?

I can see your point. I think it is something in the Scouse psyche that they have this sort of 'victim syndrome'.

Not sure how you can link Hillsborough and Heysel. One was a disaster, the other a violent atrocity.

I remember driving down to Northampton and listening to the whole Hillsborough tragedy unfold, it went from the commentators berating fans for being on the pitch, to complete horror. I remember that night the mood out in town was weird to say the least. At Hillsborough we saw men, women and children die before our eye's, mainly due to the incompetence of the South Yorkshire Police. Yes I agree that the scousers milk it, but it could have happened to another set of fans as it was an accident waiting to happen. Maybe the lesson should have been learned a decade before at Ibrox.

I miss the terraces, but it has to be said that after the Taylor report, we've seen far more women and kids at matches because it is now a far safer enviroment.

I take your point ESM and I'm not really linking Heysel and Hillsborough because, as you say, they were totally different events.

I think my point it more about the scouse mentality of always blaming others which they've a reasonable, if not 100%, case for in the Hillsborough issue but they also try to blame others over Heysel as well. "Old Stadium" "inadequate policing" "no segregation" as though the rioting fans had nothing to do with it.

Interesting point about the kids now though. I remember being half crushed on the terraces as a nipper and finding it scary but fun at the time. It seems unbelievably dangerous now looking back.

I remember as a young adult being scared when there was a massive crowd surge, if you lost your footing you were in deep shit. I know the all seater stadiums have taken some of the atmosphere away, but it is a far nicer environment.

Old fashioned terraces were accidents wating to happen, especially when added to the policing/stewarding standards of the era.

But nowadays, as Cloudy says, crowd control is at a completely different level and new stadiums like CoMS could easily incorporate some terracing without the risk of a tragedy. Let's say the lower tier of the East and South stands were made into terracing. These areas would be full every week, improve the atmosphere and leave the majority of the stadium all seater.

They do that in Germany but it's a complete ball ache if the stadiums are used for Euro or International games as terracing is against their rules. They either have to put seats back in, or shut the standing areas.

At Lansdowne Road they use terraces for friendly games. This is where I usually end up. It can get a overcrowded and your view can be blocked. They put in bucket seats for the competitive games.

The Republic of Ireland will be playing their next games at Croke Park. There is terracing behind one goal (Hill 16) but no temporary seats will be put in. There are about 80,000 seats.

Give me seating over terracing every time.

I used to love terracing, but if it was brought back, i'd still keep my seat. But there are plenty of people who would stand if given the option.

Of course the scousers have to take some of the blame for Hillsborough. If there weren't so many trying to sneak in for nowt it wouldn't have been so squished inside.
