| NICOLAS ANELKA says he would have racked up a lot less air miles if Liverpool had signed him - because he would never have left the club. After goals against Arsenal and Manchester City, the Bolton striker could not repeat his trick of scoring against his former clubs in Monday's game at Anfield as Liverpool won 3-0. Anelka spent five months on loan with the Reds in 2002, followed by spells at Manchester City and Fenerbahce before he arrived at the Reebok. And the 27-year-old says his time at Anfield was the best of his career. "I think if I had signed a three or four-year contract with Liverpool I would still be there now because I would have renewed it," Anelka said. "It was the club I really got a kick out of. "And I could play the role I like. I played behind (Michael) Owen and (Emile) Heskey. I could roam around a bit in the middle of the pitch in a position I like and set up goals. "It was a very important stage of my career because when I left Arsenal I didn't really manage to find a club which suited me. I didn't really like the year I spent at Real Madrid. "But with the Reds, the players and supporters made me feel very welcome. It was a very good team which finished second in the Premiership. Even if I didn't stay on, we managed to qualify for the Champions League. It was a club which really suited me. "Why didn't I stay? I don't know. You would have to ask Gerard Houllier." Instead, the French forward notched up another three moves, taking his tally of clubs to seven, and his total transfer fees to £51.5million. So you didn't really like the year you spent at Real, Nicolas? Well that's a shame seeing as you threw a strop and demanded to go there...

| Hmmmm, Perhaps angling a move during the transfer window? and Eligible for CL too!! Maybe if you wernt such a spoilt brat Houlier might have signed you !! Perhaps he thought you wouldn't stay at the club or were not committed enough? No Idea why he might have thought that though !!

| | Tbf, I think this is a fairly old interview they've dug up but even so, we all know the script by now. Perhaps we should have a sweep on when and where he goes next? My bet: Summer window 2007 and Portsmouth.

| PB (03/01/2007) Liverpool fans loved him. and he really did want to play there. a mate of mine was proper gutted when houlier didnt keep him.Thing is though, most fans do love him at first - I'm sure Arsenal fans did when he played for them, until he 'turned'. He never had a chance to piss off the Scousers with his sulks and apathetic performances when it didn't suit him, he was still making the effort at that point. But who's to say if he had signed for them it wouldn't have turned out exactly the way it did with every single other club he has ever signed for? Of course, it could have gone the other way and he could have found his 'soulmate' club, but I doubt it, it's happened too often to be merely an unfortunate series of circumstances he always finds himself in.

I thought those who boo'd were bang out of order. I applauded. Nico is clearly not a mentally stable guy, it's wrong to hold that against him IMO. He is a player we were lucky to have seen in a City shirt...that simple, it's a shame we wern't good enough for him. We just wern't. However, my bet is he will end up at Rosenborg...they're obscure enough for him to leave within a year and come back to the premiership with Watford claiming that he loves English football and it is his home, before moving to FC Copenhagan claiming he wants CL football, before coming back to the premiership with Reading claiming that he loves English football and it is his home, before going to Olympiakos saying he wants CL football...etc etc
