I think Sidwell could still be tempted. He might look at the likes of West Ham and Wigan this season, and realise there's the possibility of being involved in a relegation battle in Reading's "difficult second season." I mean I didn't expect Jimmy Bullard to leave Wigan, but first chance he got, he moved to a more established club. And if he thinks there's gonna be a fair bit of investment in the near future, he should see us as a better prospect.

And I think the fact that Pearce has already tried to sign him would give us the edge over other clubs, since he'll know that we're not only after him because he's available on a free.

Considering we didn't spend much at all in the summer I think we might have a few million tops.  I'd sell off Corradi to Chievo for £1.5M along with a couple/few fringe players, use £3m on a new striker and try and get Benayoun on-loan or get Thomert for £2m?  Wishful thinking probably lol.  We need a new striker and a creative midfielder, even if they are both loans.

P.S.  Anyone think that Wardle might not let Pearce spend much cos of the reported takeover?  Just thinking because he wouldn't want to give Pearce anymore of his own money / much more money if it was actually going ahead would he?

You could be right Alan and the fact that he mentioned it during the AGM, not so long ago just before the Transfer window opened and then Pearce's comments that any money will come from his wallet does not look so good!!

I suspect that Wardle simply doesn't have any more ready cash to put up for a big January spend, not that Chairman usually do use their own money anyway. Usually the club borrow the money and the loan is guaranteed by the Chairman or other members of the Board or the money is lent directly by the director.

Wardle knows that to get the best price for his shares he needs to be selling a nailed on certainty for Premiership football next season so, if he has the money, I think he will stump up.

We should remember that none of our directors are squillionaires. They are wealthy men who have already put in a lot of cash for little or no return because they are fans of City. It's easy to criticise them but I'd keep Wardle and Co in preference to many of the people getting involved in Premiership clubs right now.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

I wasnt knocking them cloudy, I just dont see us having much because of the possibilities of this and that. I think they have done a lot over the last few years.

We should put in a cheeky offer now, just to remind him we are still interested !!

Skysports.com understand Reading are ready to offer Steve Sidwell a bumper new deal in a bid to keep him at The Madejski Stadium.
