| | Only too well but if Pearce sees a player he thinks will genuinely add something to the squad - what happens when he is told to sell before he can buy ?

| | Reading between the lines it sounds to me that City can't spend anything and are likely to bring in a couple of loan players (if any) to add depth to our squad for the rest of this season. If we do have some cash (not sure why Wardle would "loan" the club any any new money) it will probably be too little to add a quality striker or midfielder (unless we lose 2 or 3...SD JB MR..) I also reckon a few fringe players will be on their way out to free up some cash. I wouldn't be too surprised if City don't make more than 1 or 2 ins/outs. We aren't in a position to buy and shouldn't be thinking of selling. Just hope we can keep Distin.

|
Born Unlucky (02/01/2007) No point spending what little we have on more bit part players. We only need 4 more wins. We'll be fine. Save the money I say. UEFA Cup doesn't earn you enough to make it worthwhile speculating on. Do people not remember KK?
Things have changed since then BU. With the advent of the group stages the revenue has increased dramatically, it also raises the profile of the club.

I can see Reyna, Mills and Hamann going this month, maybe Corradi also, so a quality midfielder and a striker would seem to be the priority.

Dramatically? The prize money and tv money hasn't changed much and I doubt the gates of the teams involved have been bumper.

| Cloudy's Broken Resolution (02/01/2007) Sound PR tactics I think. No point in saying "I've got £10m to spend" or you get ripped off as we have in the past.
Someone on Radio 5 this morning was saying that the only players available in January are usually not worth having anyway which makes some sense too I reckon. Personally, if we've got some cash available I'd prefer to spend some of it on keeping Distin at City. He was magnificent again yesterday I thought.
What you have to look at is the teams struggling. There's many a players in the Charlton and West Ham teams that I would love to have, so there is a point to signing good players in Jan. Both those teams are struggling and have had disruptions, so who knows how easily a players head will turn if a 'top ten' side like City go in for them.
Might be worth a cheeky bid for a few players, like Andy Reid, Benayon (sp?), Darren bent and there's a few more too....... Imagine all three addtions to our team!

| Has Sidwell now signed a new contract at Reading? Also what's happened to the £2.5m we bid for him last summer?? We didn't spend it elsewhere.

| East Stand Massive (02/01/2007) Has Sidwell now signed a new contract at Reading? Also what's happened to the £2.5m we bid for him last summer?? We didn't spend it elsewhere.Don't know if he's signed or not, but he certainly suggested that he would want to stay with them if their league position was decent. So it seems highly unlikely he will move in January, and only a total collapse in the second half of the season might prompt him to leave in the summer. No idea what has happened to the money, but as has already been suggested, I reckon if SP identifies reasonable specific targets who are available for the money we have and will improve the team, then Wardle will stump up the cash. SP just won't be given a set amount of money to spend for the sake of it on a number of bit-part players.
