| According to the Expresss this morning Newcastle are going to trigger Barton's £5.5m minimum fee release clause and offer him wages of £55,000 a week. Apparently Everton are also sniffing around him but can only offer wages of £33,000. I hope he decides to stay as I think he's been our best player this season.

| | If he leaves, we must use the money to replace him with quality, not another journeyman. That said, it is incredibly important we keep him. Not happy this morning.
It's practically Christmas today! |

| If he goes we'll probably end up spending all of the money on a winger, striker and full back and then we'll bang on about needing a centre-mid for ages.

| City should never have allowed that clause in Bartons contract to be as low as £5.5 million. It should have been at least £10 million. Who wouldn't take Barton for that kind of money? What would city get for that kind of money if they had to replace him? Not much.

| If he left at the moment it would leave a huge hole in our midfield, he's been probably our best and most consistent player this season.

| saveme Jeebus (30/12/2006) City should never have allowed that clause in Bartons contract to be as low as £5.5 million. It should have been at least £10 million. Who wouldn't take Barton for that kind of money? What would city get for that kind of money if they had to replace him? Not much. The thing is that the club could hardly say he wasn't worth 50k a week but then say he was worth 10 million. The 5.5 million was probably the best we could hope for. I think he's going its a shame but he's a good player and he is forced to play with absolute sh1te so it must annoy him. When he goes we're going to be short in the centre big time |

| | It's really irritating. He's about to get an England call up. And if the past couple of years has taught me anything about Man City players, it's that their value goes up to £20m after a single England cap. I was enjoying that trend, but that £5.5m thing ruins it. If we do get a takeover, I think one of our first priorities should be to buy out that clause and hand him the captaincy. |

| | I dont think any takeover could happen in time to stop Barton from going. I think there'll be a queue of clubs lining up to sign Barton for £5.5 million in the transfer window. I'm just hoping they'll all be struggling teams. Then Joey might see it as a backward step and stay with us. I cant see any of the "big four" coming in for him, so that leaves maybe.. Newcastle, Spurs and possibly.. Aston Villa. Even then though, it should be a tough call. Anywhere else I think he should see as a backward step, ..or at least a sideways step. I'd put money on it that Middlesbrough will try again.
