laceName w:st="on">ManchesterlaceName> laceType w:st="on">CitylaceType> boss Stuart Pearce expects to make a few additions to his squad in the January transfer window.

Pearce is keen to bolster his options as he believes he has one of the smallest squads in the Premiership.

The City chief is hopeful Eastlands chairman John Wardle will make money available so that he can be active in the transfer market.

"I am aware of the positions in the squad that need filling as well as I don't think we have the biggest of squads that's for sure," Pearce told Sky Sports News.

"We are busy looking everywhere and I am acutely aware of what we need and it is just a matter of getting them.

"I might have to juggle the pack a bit depending on any news on the takeover, but I am sure the chairman will find some money from somewhere.

Pearce admitted he was not taking much notice of the possible takeover of the club preferring to concentrate on the football side of things at City.

"I believe (talks are ongoing) so I have left it with the money men at the club and I believe they are talking to various parties in respect to a takeover of the club and that's fine with me," added Pearce.

"In some ways at this stage (the takeover) is irrelevant to me and it is for me to concentrate on the football side of things."

Lets hope we have some money in January then !!

Stuart Pearce has given his weekly press briefing ahead of Bolton’s visit to the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday. Amongst the issues raised was that of player scouting with the January transfer window just around the corner.

With reporters making reference to Steve Wigley’s comments from Tuesday, when he admitting both himself and Pearce had been scouting in Europe recently, Pearce said: “I get to see a lot of matches. I’ve got to be prepared for whatever eventuality we have at the Club.

“What you’ve got to be aware of is that if you look outside the Premier League for anyone that’s doing reasonably well teams are going to put a higher valuation on them.

“Sometimes you get better value for money from abroad. Personally, I’d prefer to buy a player from this country, but budgets dictate at times.”

From the OS as well !!

Yes I just saw that too

Heerenveen have warned interested clubs that star striker Afonso Alves will not be sold cheaply.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with the Brazilian after travelling to Holland to watch potential targets.

Georgios Samaras moved to Eastlands from Heerenveen last winter and Stuart Pearce is understood to be keen on signing another of the Dutch club's strikers.

However, Heerenveen are expected to demand in the region of €14million (£9.4million) for the player they brought to the club from Malmo in the summer.

The Dutch side are confident they will be able to hold onto Alves next month, with their asking price likely to put off many clubs.

"The risk of us losing Afonso Alves in January is very small," chairman Koos Formsma said.
