There's been some classics over the years. Songs that had lyrics that, at the time, would have seen them banned but didn't.

The classic example is Walk on the Wild Side. The story goes that on Radio One at the time the DJ's would sit round listening to stuff and decide whether it was "appropriate" for the BBC. When they listened to this track Tony Blackbun and DLT were all for it and thought it a "lovely song" whilst John Peel who knew what the lyrics referred to a transvestite prostitute offering oral sex carefully kept shtum!

The double irony is that it was released as a double A side single. The other side being Perfect Day which has since been used countless times by the Beeb including the famous medley version with all the different singers a few years back. Nothing wrong with that I hear you say. Except it's widely thought that the lyrics are a love song to Heroin and not a nice day out with the girlfriend.

Any other songs that snuck under the radar anyone?

Some people clame that "golden brown" by the stranglers is about heroin even though the band say it isn't. Whether it is or not, I have no idea.

Not that keen on The Darkness, but fair play to them for going for the Christmas No 1 with a song whose chorus contained "ringpiece" and "bell-end".

I think Robbie Williams' recent single "Rudebox" may have contained a certain double meaning.

That song is definitely about Heroin as is Brown Sugar probably?

Another good "missed" one is "Turning Japanese."

To me no song should be banned.  I can't stand it when the radio station plays a song, yet bleeps bits out or cuts bits out.  If you're going to play the song, play the whole bloody song, not some watered down version, so as not to offend me.

Another one, when they play 'Creep' by Radiohead, play the proper version.  Not the one with 'so 'very' special...' in it, that's bollox.

Listening to Eminem on the radio, is like listening to Adamski, there's that many bleeps in it.

Brown Sugar by The Rolling Stones was a about a prostitute in New Orleans who Mick Jagger fell for.

Also its claimed that "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" by the beatles is about LSD. Again though, I've no idea if it really is.

I would imagine it is.  The Beatles weren't averse to 'experimenting' with substances were they?

"Arnold Lane" by Pink Floyd was about a transvestite who stole womens underwear from washing lines. Although it wouldn't be controversial now, it would have been in 1967 when it came out as a single.
