| I thought he played very well, but this was the wrong game for stevie ireland, as the defence were not protected when he came on, against lesser opposition it wouldnt have been a problem, I suggest we now give him a good run in the team with Joey, he has a little more vision than Joey bit Joey is a far better box to boxer, it may prove a good mix

| | Sorry, disagree that he has more vision than Sir Joey! I think the kid came on and did his chances of a recall no harm at all, but to now say he has more vision than Joey, I doubt it. Let's not get carried away. He came on when the UTD defence were already looking shoddy, backing off and he did very well for the goal and was unlucky with the shot. Let's see if SP gives him a run in the team, then judge him. I like him, contrary to the threads a couple of weeks ago that were saying he was a bit 'weak'. Whether he can cement his place in the team, I don't know. If SP is now not thinking of letting Distin go in January, then he FOOKIN should! What a nob! He is fine when he is chasing somebody down and he has the time to make an informed decision to tackle, but when he gets his back to goal, with somebody running at him, his left leg, becomes his right and visa versa. He looks like a new born giraffe. Not sure what these two long things are with bits sticking out at the bottom, with 10 stumpy things on the end. POOR! I think we really need to look at cashing in on him, sell Hamman to Bolton if SP isn't going to play him and look at promoting Micah to CB.

Distin was poor, it does my head in that in games like this he lets us down, especially when he is hoping to get signed off one of the 'big boys'!
Ireland is more creative than Barton, that's for sure. Barton is a good box to box midfielder, but his distribution is poor.
The only problem with playing both Ireland and Barton would be at the back, they both like to get forward, but at home we should be doing that.
Let's see what SP does for Sundays game against Spurs. |

| Ireland started poorly but got better as the half progressed. Did very well for the goal. Just lacking match practice I reckon.
Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking when I hear the silly things that you say |

| | I'd say Ireland certainly has more vision than Joey in terms of being able to see the right pass and being able to open up areas of the pitch to other players. I also remember him getting the boot in to good effect against the rags last season, so he's not just the ball-player some people claim him to be. I don't think we've anything to lose by playing Ireland and Barton, especially at home. They can possibly operate in a Scholes/Keane style partnership. Maybe in a while we'll be able to bring in Dabo for away matches when we need a holding player? I can't see Pearce selling him either. He's been banging on for ages that Stevie is the one for everyone to watch in the long-term.

He's always shown signs of it but has never really had a prolonged spell in the team to make a big impression.
