posted on the city website today ....

comments from stu

After recent speculation linking Shaun Wright-Phillips with a January move away from Chelsea, the evitable question of ‘would you have him back?’ was put to Stuart Pearce this morning.

“The question is whether Chelsea would want to sell him, after that it is something for our board to decide.

“If a price was set and Chelsea were prepared to sell him, I think he'd give this club a very, very big lift if he walked back through the door. He's certainly the sort of player that would give our fans a big lift.”

And if the rumours are to be believed and Chelsea would allow Shaun to leave, would City look to at the possibility of signing the England winger?

“I think you have to with players of his quality. It's not often that Shaun Wright-Phillips becomes available, unless you break the bank and buy him like Chelsea did from us”, Pearce said.

“I would suggest that Shaun would have a lot of suitors around this country if he became available. In the past we've made an attempt to bring him here and I believe that he's a fantastic player.”

SO there is a chance , the only worry is that micah will be used as a pawn in the deal, i really hope not for everyones sake...

He'll be out of our price range.

Won't happen, as I sure SP rates Micah as highly as SWP, if we did do a swap, it'd be one step forward and one step back IMO.

Based on current form, potential and the ability to cover a number of positions I know who I'd rather have.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

In the current climate you'd have to say that Micah is worth more than SWP.

I think the board are seriously considering a bid for him, but the questions i would pose are

a) is this a quick fix to appease the fans

b) does he really want to come back to city

c) Can we really afford him and if we are to bid the ball park figure of 10-12m, wouldnt it be better spent on 2-3 players???

£10-12m IS alot of money, and I'm not saying that buying SWP back is the right thing to do, but we seem to have got into the habit of spend small sums of money on average to bad players. If the board DID come up with that sort of cash, (and we're not having to replace the likes of Distin), I'd much prefer ro see us spend it on one or two quality players that WILL make a difference.

Anyway, as I've said before, if Trabelsi keeps up his good form and stays fit, we don't need SWP.

City won't be in the running for SWP - we don't have the finances to bring him in to fill a position that isn't vacant.  If the £11-12M is true, then he isn't in our plans.  We need to spend that sort of cash on 2 or 3 players (1 midfield, 1 striker, 1 defender), we'll get a couple of £M for Distin in Jan, top it up to abut 5 or 6, maybe sell a couple of fringe players and that will be it.

Our wage structure wouldn't stretch to is demands either.

However,

You have to take into account fan adoration. Do Chelsea supporters like SWP to the extent that we did? I do think that he might take a pay cut knowing that he could come back to us.

But, Micah should not be used in any deal. And if we magic £10-12m from the Fantasy Bank of Manchester, I certainly wouldn't spend it on one player. Nicolas Anelka anyone?

if we have 10-12 million to spend come Jan (meanwhile, back in the real world), I say spend it on bringing in 4-5 players to add strength and depth to the squad
