Speaking of Robert Johnson. How come onbody's mentioned Eric Clapton yet?

Because without Johnson there would be no Clapton. For his early work with John Mayall and Cream especially, he is an icon.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

Cloudy O'Reyna (28/11/2006)
East Stand Massive (28/11/2006)
Duran Duran etc....

Like it or lump it they changed the face of 'popular' music in the early 80's.

Now then ESM, don't get me started.......

Well, as I said, rightly or wrongly they had as much ab influence on the direction of that era's music than any of the other artists we've mentioned,

I know what you mean but, speaking from personal experience, you couldn't wish to meet a bigger bunch of utter knobheads.

yeah, his best work was with Cream. ...and as you say, the bluesbreakers. You forgot The yardbirds though.

But Cream will always be what he's rememberd for. ...and being a recovered heroin addict and alcoholic.

Yes, all right.. Christ Almighty! It's like walking down a corridor and answering the door in Nazi Germany!

I didn't forget the Yardbirds, I just think he had more influence with the other two bands.

This is the most influential band of the last 35 years. And along with The Beatles and Elvis the most influential act that has ever existed.

They have a very strong case.

Grrrr.....

This is the "why are they" icons thread!

Not the "these are my" icons thread.
