I think that everybody has their own music icons. so it's always going to be difficult to agree. If I was asked for a list of people who had changed or influenced music and gained iconic status, they would be.. Elvis Bob Dylan The Beatles The New York Dolls, (not the pistols) Jackmaster Flash Morrissey And personally I'd chuck Ian Curtis into the frame, plus one of the early house/techno DJ's, which one is down to taste. To not include the Velvet Underground in that list is a sin imo East Stand. Ok, it took Bowie's patronage to bring them to the mainstream but even so....... I was going to add Lou Reed to the list, but they didn't really change the shape of music did they? Totally imo. Name almost any decent band post 1969 and there'll be clear Velvets influence.
Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced. |

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

| Plus, any list of music icons should include Robert Johnson IMO.

| | As you've all (Slart in particular) failed to rise to my Pink Floyd bait (either that or you know I'm right) here's another false icon for you: The Rolling Stones. 25% Genius 75% Dross.

| Although I've already mentioned Curtis, what about Joy Division? One os the bands that shaped the post punk era, such a bloody waste.
