| | Elvis was crap wasn't he? You can argue that he made Rock and Roll acceptable to White America but other than that, a few decent songs and far to many poor ones.
Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced. |

| It is true that the 183 films and the soundtrack albums have diluted the genius of Elvis, but just listen to the early recordings and the comeback special and you'll understand. Even the much laughed at Vegas incarnation produced some great moments.

| East Stand Massive (28/11/2006) He didn't write any of his stuff either. So if you apply bassman logic (if there is such a thing) he has no musical credability whatsoever. I like some of his early work but there were much better artists, Eddie Cochrane being one IMO.
you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

You sound like Bassman! Being a songwriter doesn't necessarily make you an icon. Elvis was a great performer and singer. He was always backed by great bands and got his hands on some great songs that he made his own.
And anyway, when I was a kid growing up in the 70s I used to enjoy watching his films on TV.
