The Govt pretty much encourages the use of alcohol and this is one of the most harmful drugs to society. They do little to stop smoking and this is also a major killer. Mushrooms cause little harm and these were banned in ROI a few years ago because a young man who was drunk and had taken a few 'shrooms jumped out a window. Why not ban alcohol as well? And if the bloke thought he fly, why didn't he try taking off from the ground rather than launch himself from the 4th floor of an apartment? I'm concurring you so hard right now.

alcohol should be banned but isn't it the whole case? smoking doesn't prevent you thinking because you don't get drunk by smoking. but if you get alcohol that influences your brain and relaxes you like everything is just fine. communist russia as far as i know directed for many years via votka. thats the reason why alcohol isn't banned but cigar
edit: smoking either is not trying to be banned but they're just diverting people

| | Alcohol shouldn't be banned. Most people have a drink and never come to any harm. Even those that go on weekend benders only cause a little short term harm to themselves. Those that cause trouble are usually idiots anyway and why should the actions of a few spoil it for everyone? I don't drink through choice but I wouldn't want to deny others a bevy. Smoking is stupid and tobacco, as far as I can see, has no positive effects at all. However, if an adult wants to smoke then let them as long as it doesn't interfere with others.

| Shimmer (30/04/2008) i agree what you've been saying and i also say people should be aware, careful and also as you've said free to choose what they want to doIf someone wants to be stupid then let them. No amount of legislation will stop that. Look at all the junkies cloging up the street? However, society does have a responsibility to make sure the circumstances that lead to people becoming drug addicts through deprivation are kept to a minimum.

| Even as I am a child of the sixties I can honestly say the only drugs I have ever taken are those prescribed by doctors and alcohol.

This is why we missed Slart.

| This thread is getting far too intelligent for my liking. I will dumb it down a bit.
