East Stand Massive (18/09/2006)
Born Unlucky (18/09/2006) We literally cant afford to be throwing money at it in January. Not at a failing team with a failing manager, but if SP was to go, Wardle and Makin would have to find funds from somewhere to give his replacement half a chance. But there is no guarantee a new manager will spend any more wisely. One of my worries about appointing SP was how he would spend the money he was given, and I was keen for the board not to give him too much too soon. For once I think they've been sensible. After the nonsense we've had to put up with over the years and the financial position we find ourselves in I really think this is a policy City should adopt long term. Let a new manager earn the right to spend some cash. I agree with your point BU but if we're in enough trouble as to have to be looking to let SP go then what decent manager is going to interested in taking on a struglling club with little or no money to spend? Well, probably no one. However, I still cling on to the hope that there must be someone, somewhere, that isn't afraid of a challenge, who is confident in his own ability and who understands and accepts the performance related incentives we would be offering.
SP it is then....

| | I think our memories are a little short, look back to the effect of Peter Reid leaving the club and what followed after led to the darkest era in the club. Okay we have had a shite start, but we have a period now where we should pick up points. Pearce has no budget, this is clear, we still have players to come in as well. If the big sweede was playing yesterday would we have been 2-0 at half time instead of 2-2? Weaver has done well, but I dont think he commands the defence at all. Yesterday was school boy errors from the back five. I think its wrong to start worrying, look where Liverpool and Spurs are!! Its early days. There is no money, the club is getting stability and the team and manager needs the backing of the fans, not added pressure!! Give Pearce a chance he changed a lot since last year, its never going to Gel straight away, lets get behind him and the team.

| We've been struggling for some time now. When KK left, the team was drifting to relegation. We didn't have any drive or spirit. When SP took over he initially sparked a revival that lasted to the end of the season and into the early part of the new season. However, that team, with pretty much the same players, reverted to type and we almost went down again. I think the brief revival in our fortunes was a 'dead cat's bounce'.
SP said last season that if the poor run continued he would dismantle the team. He has kept to his word. We have got off to a poor start, but we have yet to see some of the new signings in action. I think five games is too early to talk about getting rid of the manager. It is worrying, but I think we must give SP a chance to prove what he can do with his team. Getting rid of managers too quickly is what Swales and Lee did. Look where that put us.
Have some faith!

| | Let's look at Everton last year and try to use them as an example of what can be done. They were bottom in November I think, but stuck with Moyes and his team and they finished 11th I think. Look at them now with only one notable addition. Granted a quality addition but neverless just goes to show what a goal scorer can do to a team. I don't like some of the long ball stuff, but I can't honestly say we are playing badly, We should have beaten Portsmouth and only Joey hitting the post stopped us, we created enough good chances to beat Reading and we created enough chances to bury Blackburn. We are not playing badly but we haven't got someone to put it in the onion bag, which needs to be remedied.

| | But they didn't last season, they stuck with what they had and in the end were alright. Should start trying to wield the axe yet is my point.

I don't see the point in change for change's sake just yet. Let's see how things look after a dozen or so games, when the table is more likely to be a true representation of how things are. SP has brought in 8 players this summer, which is quite a change to the squad, and they may take time to settle in. I'm sure Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham and Tottenham fans are also all disappointed by their league positions right now.

| | Like I said at the start - I lean towards the opinion of giving him more time - the injuries to players he's brought in mean that we may not see his first chioce team until January ! Lets hope it's not too late by then

Like I said at the start - I lean towards the opinion of giving him more time - the injuries to players he's brought in mean that we may not see his first chioce team until January ! Lets hope it's not too late by then Sorry timp, should perhaps have started a new paragraph after the first sentence, as only that bit was directly aimed at what you had said. I may be overly optimistic, but I don't think it will be too late in January (though I agree with ESM about the Chesterfield result, if only because that is the nature of football fans and boards in general). I think we will be mid-table with a total mish-mash of performances and results under our belts from the very good to the lucky to the frustrating to the very bad. Football is a game of very delicate balance. We've had a problem creating chances, putting them away and staying strong defensively in pretty much every combination possible. As one flaw shows improvement, it always seems to be at the expense of one of the others, but it is not impossible that at some point all three will come together.
