Other than one or two exceptions this is now SP's team. Although working to a tight budget he's brought in the players HE wanted and has changed the way we play. So now there are no hiding places, if it goes tits up, SP has to take the blame, I hope he, (and the team), turn it round, the question is, if he/they don't, how long do we wait to react?? Personally I'd give him a dozen league games before I start getting seriously worried about the team, if results continue as they are.
January is key IMO, if things are looking dire by then, we need to give a new manager the winter transfer window to try and turn things round.

| | Bob's dead. I'd accept losing a little better if we played better. This is my major gripe with SP, he's turning us into a poor mans Bolton.

Bob's dead. I'd accept losing a little better if we played better. This is my major gripe with SP, he's turning us into a poor mans Bolton. Could that be because of the lack of funds?? Having to get 'make do' players rather than players who would make a difference??

| SP has been good for City. He's reduced the wage bill and built a reasonable side on a small budget. After KK that is JUST what City needed. Kinda like bringing the administrators in. However, whether he is up to the job long term is very much in the balance. I don't think there is any genius in SP. Not much thats inspired (no matter how much he tries to kid us otherwise). He's honest, hard working and straight talking. Thats great, if you are a Championship side thats just happy to be there.
As every day passes I'm becoming more and more convinced SP should only be an interim appointment. Someone who can do the job competently on a tight budget and who wont complain. How long this interim period is remains to be seen. If we where we are by the beginning of December we really must do something. We literally cant afford to be throwing money at it in January.

| No i think it's more to do with style, we're not playing attractive football, we're boring to watch for the most part. We played some nice one touch football towards the start of last season and we started to really gel, and a few times rip teams apart. But from the derby at our place last year we have stopped and started kicking teams and hoofing the ball. With that came the run at the end of last season and SP was then trying to make us a 'hard to beat' team.

| Born Unlucky (18/09/2006) We literally cant afford to be throwing money at it in January. Not at a failing team with a failing manager, but if SP was to go, Wardle and Makin would have to find funds from somewhere to give his replacement half a chance.

But there is no guarantee a new manager will spend any more wisely. One of my worries about appointing SP was how he would spend the money he was given, and I was keen for the board not to give him too much too soon. For once I think they've been sensible. After the nonsense we've had to put up with over the years and the financial position we find ourselves in I really think this is a policy City should adopt long term. Let a new manager earn the right to spend some cash.

| | I worry that unless we turn things roung big time soon then the defining moment of Pearce's time as City manager will be the moment Samaras got injured v Wigan last season. Probably wasn't the wisest decision to play him, although i won't criticise it because i agreed with it at the time. But he'd been injured the game before (?), Pearce played him, he picked up an injury again and missed the West Ham cup quarter final. From there it all went wrong. Samaras could have been the difference in that game, we've still not recovered. All the things SP was praised for are now being seen as his weaknesses. For example, it was originally seen as refreshing when he refused to criticise referees and their decisions, now it's being seen as making the club look weak. His touchline antics were originally brilliant and passionate, now a lot of people are suggesting it's wearing thin. Personally if it still looks shit at xmas i think the only thing that might save him will be the board not wanting to find a more expensive option. Curbs would be good for us if it does all go pear shaped, but i think he might go to West Brom.

I agree with your point BU but if we're in enough trouble as to have to be looking to let SP go then what decent manager is going to interested in taking on a struglling club with little or no money to spend?
