oh fucksticks, thought this was a joke at first. can't believe we're actually going to see the manager sacked whilst we register our highest points/position in the premiership.

Not for the first time is it?

Perhaps this is the difference between Thaksin and all other chairmen we have had. We understand the history of City and are therefore delighted to finish 8th or 9th this season. Thaksin wants a top 4 finish if not a treble in year one.

Insanity of course, over-ambition of course, but perhaps, just perhaps this is actually what we need in order to push us on to actually winning stuff.

Sure, I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, but it is a valid point all the same.

So balls handed his tranfer request in then?

Ball wants City to build on this season

29/04/2008 10:46

Michael Ball insists that City can build on the improvements made this season as the Blues head for a top 10 finish.

The defender, who fought his way back into the side after initially being left out of the side, says:

"Before the season we did not really know what the targets were going to be, because there were so many new faces. If you look at where we are, we would have been quite happy, but if we have faded away it's not through lack of effort.

"If we can add a few more quality players in the summer and keep everyone together, hopefully we can push for Europe more next season."

The 28-year-old stepped into the breach last weekend as skipper & central defender in Richard Dunne's absence, which with a string of other fitness problems in defence he was more than happy to do.

"With the amount of injuries at the back that we have got, we have had to dig in and do our best for the Manager. We had Elano at right back and myself in central defence, it was totally different to if we had a full strength squad. Richard would have been skipper but we had to take it on the chin, the Manager asked me to captain and I was quite happy to step up."

And Michael has also given his full backing to manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, adding:

"Every player is 100% behind Sven. We like his methods, the way he trains, and the way he goes about his tactics with Hans.

"If the club wants to go forward we have got to keep the coaching staff
