OK - time I said this. I am sick and tired of reading criticism of Stephen Ireland and listening to the groans at the ground when he makes the odd bad pass which ALL players do at times. Ireland (with the possible exception of Jimmy Bullard) was the best player on the pitch on Saturday by a mile and we went to pieces when he was taken off for Geo who keeps the ball for far too long.

However, Ireland gets a round of applause while Geo gets a big cheer and his name sung over and over again.

Ireland was also (in my opinion) the best player we had in the derby at OT this season. What is our fans problem with this lad? He is one of our own who has come throught he system and is a great midfield player who has had a better second half of the season than Elano.

Consider this - if Ireland had played as poorly as Michael Johnson in the past two games then the crowd would have been baying for him to be taken off yet not one bad word can ever be said about Johnson - I just don't understand it?

And while I am at it - why is Benjani such a hero yet we never seem to sing for Vassell who has been magnificent for the past few weeks and did also - as you may remember - score on derby day!

Time to calm down now!

And yes I have just realised that I have spelled his name wrong in the post topic, and yes that has really pissed me off!

Ireland was surely missed after he was subbed on Saturday.  Ireland is probably the most improved player since the arrival of Sven (Johnson a close second with Hart).  He has a magical tough when he's concentrating and hasn't got time to think about the passes.

Next season we could have a great squad if we strengthen on the right and up front as well as a couple of reliable deffenders to challenge Ball Corluka and Onouha.

I'D BE SAD TO SEE ANY OF OUR HOME GROWN TALENT LEAVE IN THE SUMMER and hope Sven sees a future for all the regulars as well as Sturridge.

C.T.I.D. (then some)

I don't understand it either, really pisses me off. He gets forward, tracks back, makes intelligent passes.. a real all round midfielder yet one bad pass and half the stadium is on his back.

I was so glad when he scored on saturday.

Didn't get sat down until maybe five minutes after kick off, and the first thing I heard was the bloke behind me moaning about Stephen Ireland. Now, I've had some recent history of rowing with dickheads either sat around me or at the bar when it comes to Ireland and Vassell. He piped up another time saying something about he shouldn't even be in the team, I was in a bit of an unstable mental state as it was and was just thinking "I'm going to have to say something - can't listen to this all match", when away goes Irelnd's right foot. you absolute fucking beauty.

Well someone has to take the blame for all the shit now that sam has gone.
He is ok, not the worst and not the best. Keep him.

My problem with Ireland is that he is inconsistent. One match he is fantastic, then for the next 3 he is almost invisible and cocks up even the simplest 10 yard pass.

On his form he is great.

Problem with Geo is I believe that he is not getting enough chances to show his worth in real matches I believe. Whenever he comes on he is full of energy but what can you do in 10 minutes?

Hark now hear, the City sing

I've got Irelands name on the back of my shirt. Being a warm day Saturday, it was the first time I'd worn it 'on display'. Was actually expecting stick from the people who sit near me. I agree people are quick to jump on his back, and he is inconsistent, but when he DOES play well, he is fucking awesome. I honestly believe he could be a fantastic player if he gets rid of his demons and plays with consistency. Whether he can or not is another thing though....

I agree with you piggy. The only thing that lets him down is the 1 game on 2 game off mode.

I think the main thing about why people get on his back is the stupid 10 yard pass he some how misses from time to time, you know...something simple and he seems to fuck it up, this is the reason. He will run up and down and this is why Geo has missed out i guess.

Too often, we lose sight of lifes simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and bitch-slap that mother....pass it on.
