Why oh why did he feel this was the right moment to say this? I don't even care now whether this i just the press twisting words, he must know how careful you have to be when you make these kind of comments, especially with the talk about Sven at the moment. What on earth is he hoping to achieve?

Elano adds to Eriksson's troubles

Daniel Taylor

The Guardian

With Thaksin Shinawatra rapidly losing confidence in him, the last thing Sven-Goran Eriksson needed last night was for one of his star players to complain about his tactics, but he found himself under even more scrutiny after a string of criticisms from Elano that could hardly have come at a worse time for the Manchester City manager.

Elano's form has been a disappointment since the turn of the year but the Brazilian blamed Eriksson for playing him out of position and showed precious little sympathy when it was put to him that his manager could be sacked at the end of the season. "Like everybody else, I have the internet and follow what's going on," he said. "We all have a responsibility to Eriksson but, whoever is manager, we have to do our best. It won't make any difference to me personally."

Elano did later say that he would be "sorry to see him go" but the only reason he offered was that Eriksson was always willing to listen if he had a complaint. "I have always been free to express myself to him and explain my worries. But whether he will be here or not is not up to me. It's somebody else's responsibility."

The midfielder then went on to query Eriksson's 4-2-3-1 formation, saying he would prefer the team to play with two forwards, and he admitted being "unhappy" with some of the manager's other decisions.

Thaksin, who has cancelled plans to watch City play Portsmouth tomorrow, plans to "evaluate" Eriksson's position at the end of the season and, for the first time, the Swede admitted he had made mistakes.

"It's been a good lesson," said Eriksson. "At Christmas and New Year we trained too much and that's my fault. I should have given the players some days off. It's a long, tough season with no breaks and most of the players we signed were used to a winter break. Mentally, their first season in the Premier League has been very tough for them."

Elano is among those to look jaded but he blamed his loss of form on being played on the left of midfield. "It's not my position," he said. "My strengths are not to tackle and compete for the ball. I have had a chat with the manager because I wasn't happy."

More paper bullshit. I'm getting so sick of this crap. Why the fuck can't these rags just print the whole fucking story.

Elano went on to say this...

"My form dipped because of a muscle injury, but I'm playing now where I like to play and I'm getting back to my best.

"I'm looking forward to being even better next season, because now I know what it is like in England.

"I will be prepared for the difference in pitches, the weather, everything."

But no. They just want to emphasis the negative. C*unts.

Yeah i've just seen that on a different website. I still think, much like Thaksin, they are unwise comments to be making

Heres what  i read from Sky sports....

I can always express my feelings to the manager," Elano said in the Daily Star. "I told him I cannot play a physical match against another player.

"I told him I need my own space. Physically, I can't compete directly against an opponent.

"My form dipped because of a muscle injury, but I'm playing now where I like to play and I'm getting back to my best.

"I'm looking forward to being even better next season, because now I know what it is like in England.

"I will be prepared for the difference in pitches, the weather, everything."

Well there you go then. If both sites would print the full story we might get somewhere near the truth

Yup. That's exactly what I said. Shows a positive spin but the crappy papers prefer the negative.

I agree about the formation, mainly not having 2 strikers. Another point i would like to say is, why is he moaning about the position when the one he is in has space, time and he wont have to tackle, i think its bollocks half of it.

its a load of press bollocks, i think everything Elano has said is fairly positive. We should look on the bright side, he has stated that he WILL be here next season and he WILL be better. We need Elano here, without him we would be withering in the lower regions of the Prem.

ELANO has vowed to show he is back to his best after having a heart-to-heart with Sven-Goran Eriksson.

A brilliant start to the season for the Brazilian playmaker faded away at the turn of the year as City slipped out of the Premier League's top four.

As far as Elano was concerned, his dip in form was due to Eriksson asking him to play in a more combative midfield role.

The 26-year-old, though, voiced his thoughts to his manager, and as a result has found himself restored to his original job - creating, rather than tackling.

Eriksson has said several times that Elano's form suffered after he came back from international duty with Brazil in October with an injury.

The Brazilian was also out for a month just before Christmas with a hamstring problem, but claims his troubles started after he returned to the side. His cool conversion of penalties in City's last two away games - at Birmingham and Sunderland - certainly suggest the confidence is back.

"I never felt the weight of responsibility on my shoulders because I have been free to express my feelings to the manager," Elano said. "He always gave me that option.

"But when I returned from injury, there was a slight change. I moved out of position and I'm not a player who can play a physical match against another player.

"I need my own space in order to produce my football because tackling is not among my strengths.

"But having spoken with the manager and returned to the position I was playing in earlier in the season, things have changed for the better."

Elano is only too aware of the speculation surrounding Eriksson's future.

Concern

He admits he has no idea whether the Swede will still be in charge at Eastlands next season, and insists it is not something the players should concern themselves with.

"Like everybody else, I have the internet and follow what is going on," Elano said.

"Whether he will be at City or not next season is not up to us players. It is up to the board.

"I have a great deal of responsibility to do my best for Eriksson or any manager who might come in, but as players, we don't have a say in what happens there.

"That is the job of the chairman and the people on the board. Our responsibility is on the pitch. We have to do our best while we are playing for this manager, and whoever comes, we have to continue to do our best."

Nevertheless, Elano would be sorry to say goodbye to the manager who brought him to England from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.

"I would be sad if I only had one season with him, in the same way that we are always sad when some of our team-mates go to play with other clubs," the Brazilian said.

While Eriksson's future could at least do with some clarifying, Elano is happily settled in the North West - and plans to stick around for a while.

He said: "I have found a new national team to support after Brazil, which is the English national team.

"I'm happy, my wife is happy and my family is happy. My mum came over to stay with me and she didn't want to go back."

He would be even happier if City could close in on the top six with victory over sixth-placed Portsmouth at Eastlands tomorrow.

He said: "The match against Portsmouth is one we have to do everything to win. In theory, we are still able to qualify for Europe.

"We've lost games like this before. We lost 2-0 to Everton at the end of February. That was a blow for us, because if we had won that match, we would have been in a good position to play in Europe next season."

But i
