Maybe, but the music that goes on shite like that is manufactured shit and all it does is serve to annoy me
Yes, some is poor. However, I don't go along with the theory that if you play your own instruments and write your own songs you are better than someone who just sings and uses outside songwriters.
Bands writing all their own songs has more to do with publishing rights than artistic reasons. The current line-up of Fairport Convention has no decent songwriters so they solicit songs from good songwriters. They certainly don't lack credibility.
Steely Dan saw quite early on that their records would sound better using session players. As a result their albums, soundwise, are better than most from that era.
Whats Fairport Convention
They are a band formed in the 1960s. They grew from a loose gathering of musicians who would gather at Fairport. The line-up has constantly changed.People often leaveand then return years later.Richard Thompson played with them for a while as did Sandy Denny. Both of those are great songwriters.
They still perform and record and have a large annual festival at Cropredy. You may not like them but they are a band who have followed their own path for years.
Sound like The Cribs of their day. Not changed their line-up at all, but have stuck to playing their music, doing their own thing and command a bit of respect for doing that
