Sorry to be a bit naive but I've always wanted to know what this chant means, I've noticed the fans get fired up when singing it a bit more and I heard Trevor Sinclair say in an interview it's his favourite chant after he found out the meaning so...what is it?

Cheers in advance

It was created as some sort of denial. We were in Division 2 at the time and it was created as City fans couldn't believe it. Sort of just like someone muttering to themselves "This isn't happening" as their world falls apart around them.

Exactly. I like the Millwall explanation.

Ahh right, so maybe if it was created while we were in Division 2 it could of sort of been saying that we will not be here and do not deserve to be here and will soon be back where we belong, the premiership

So do I but there are diferent takes on that one too. My understanding was, because of crowd trouble between City and Millwall fans we were banned any away support (FA Cup fixture?) at The Den, so, some City fans got in the home section as it was not sold out and started the chant 'We're not really here'. And it was fucking catchy so we have it to this day. It was only about 8 seasons ago it started I think...Tiatto, Ali, Eyal were all still playing for us at that match, which we won, as I recall.
