| I bought my dad a desktop trebuchet for Christmas. It's pretty good actually, you get some plasticine with it that's sort of rock-coloured which the trebuchet can sling from one side of the room to the other.
I suppose if we were to build one nowadays the easiest thing to use would be steel box section. Just quickly weld it together and robert's your father's brother. I seem to remember they did that on scrapheap challenge a year or two ago to fling a mini down a runway, but the whole thing imploded just as it was about to fire. It was quality.

Probably so, I was trying to balance performance with ease of construction. As long as it's properly braced and strongly welded steel should be OK. Unless you're Airbus making a huge lump of high-quality carbon fibre is going to be a royal pain in the arse.
How about a sexier metal, like titanium?

Too often, we lose sight of lifes simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and bitch-slap that mother....pass it on. |
