i disagree... i dont think they would be representing wales, they are representing themselves.

i see the places belonging to the competition, not the country. and the winners of that competition should get all the same rewards as any winner.

by the way, if pompey qualify via the league and win the cup, then that would open an extra space in the league wouldnt it? not mean the runners up of the cup get into europe.

Thats not how it works. Each nation gets a number of places depending on their coefficients (how well their teams have done in Europe in recent years). It is up to the FA of any particular country to decide how those places are won. We could quite easily say the cup winners don't get a UEFA spot at all, if it pleased us. The Welsh FA have their own allocation. If Cardiff want to play in an English competition then they do so knowing full well that they would not be eligible to represent England in Europe. No point bleating about it afterwards.

In this instance the law is not an ass.

I thought it went to the runners up, like it did to Southampton when Arsenal beat them.

The loser should get fuck all. You get nowt for making it to the semi's, so why you should you get a pat on the back for losing the final?

I'm pretty sure that this isn't the case this season, which is the right move for the reason you outline above.

Think I heard sommat to that effect too. Trouble is, 6th is only a UEFA spot if the LC winners finish in the top 5, which they aint gonna.

Now now, keep the love in the room...

I do think this season is the first one where the runners up in the FA Cup don't get Europe-I may be making that up, but I am sure it doesn't apply this year (and was that way from the start, not just because of lack of big 4 TM involvement).

I've been round the houses with this mentally so many times.  I think you're dead on though. 5th is guaranteed UEFA, if pompey finished 5th then 6th would be I think...

Prolly true, must have missed that announcement though.  I was just going off how things used to be (the ironing of that, having just made the point that things aren't set in stone and the FA is entitled to do exactly as it pleases with its European places)

Yup.  I don't know why I am so certain of this either, I am sure I heard it somewhere-it deffo didn't used to be the case, and I don't remember seeing the memo (how dare they do it withough my approval btw), but I am sure it is so.
