| Absolutely brilliant and better production values than Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes. 5 Stars
Ken Stott as Tony Hancock in "Hancock and Joan" - superb stuff 5 stars
The Curse of Steptoe - fucking amazing! 5 stars
Trevor Eve as Hughie Green in Hughie Green Most sincerely - mind blowingly good script and acting. 5 stars and by all accounts the best is yet to come:
David Walliams as Frankie Howerd in Frankie Howerd: Rather you Than Me
Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced. |

| | I'm not usually that fond of tv dramatisations of real lives and I'm a bit tired of the obsession in England for the last few years to go on about how depressive entertainers were in real life. However, the show about Hughie Green was great. I used to watch Opportunity Knocks and didn't think too much about him either way. Was he really such a shite? I'm not sure if I'll watch the one about Frankie. I like David Walliams but I'm not sure if I can watch another depressing show about Frankie.

| I cannot be doing with David Walliams. I find him very irritating.

I think ever since Hancock the "clown crying inside" thing is done a little too much. I watched a bit of one of them, and it was decent, but I dunno, I'd kind of like to think that sometimes these people were happy. And as for nowt good on tv, watch pretty much anything made by HBO, I can't think of one of their recent shows that I haven't enjoyed.

But that was the genius of these programmes, they didn't set out to present a one dimensional and all of the charactors had good and bad points. Hughie Green was a serial adulterer but then so was his wife it seems. Hancock was an alcoholic and a bit of a shit but also warm and funny too. The failed ambitions of the Steptoe actors was as much about the pretentiousness of the 60's as it was about them. Really, really well thought out I reckon they were and brilliantly made too. (Agree re HBO though Benny - quality US tv)

I shall seek them out and give them a go-presumably the Frankie Howerd one is this week so I'll miss it...

| Sadly though, the best show on TV finished it's latest series on Saturday.

On Saturday? On UTV they show it midweek at about 11.30. This is why I tend to miss it. Great show.
