Anyone heard owt of their new album?

Funny band REM, one album they release is expansive, experimental, a classic, the next coffee table fodder.

Anyone know which category the new'un falls into?

This is being hyped as a "return to form" so it won't be experimental.

They took up residency at Dublin's Olympia Theatre last summer and played loads of new songs. They recorded the album in Dublin.  The reviews of the shows were great.  I didn't get to the shows but bumped into Peter Buck in Temple Bar one saturday afternoon.  He was nice and didn't throw yoghurt over me.

I'm a big R.E.M. fan - of everything from Murmur all the way through to the still underrated New Adventures In Hi-Fi & Up. Last two albums (Reveal & Around The Sun) were pretty toss though.

Really encouraged by the reviews & hype surrounding Accelerate, but the press said all this about the last two albums before retrospectively panning them a year or so later! So fingers crossed...

Oh, now you love the Ten Commandments! And yet you're the one who so conveniently forgot "Thou shalt protect thy father, and honour no one above him unless it beith me - thy sweet Lord."

The stuff I've read/heard say it has an 80's feel to it. I asume they mean that it has a lighter sound to it rather than loads of electronica?

REM, ELO, ELP, OMD, ABC, all much of a muchness if you ask me.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

Someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they better start assembling the boys from the fort.
And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight,
'Cos there's gonna be riot down in Trumpton Tonight.

I really can't Slart, I don't know whether it's the improved production standards but you can understand every word they're saying. It's just not noise anymore is it?

Concurance.

Didn't go down well with your average REM fan though.
