Bassman, i too hate downloads for myself, very rarely download, much prefer to have a CD. But you can't penalise a band for that, if their product is available to buy, surely it doesn't make a difference what the format is? The point being that somebody is parting with their money to purchase the music the artist has made.

How is that inferior?

If you download all three tracks off a single, and then burn them onto a CD, what's the difference?

Years ago in pre-downloading days, a fan met Christy Moore backstage at a concert and said they had difficulty getting one of his early albums.  He took their address and said he may have a copy at home and would send a tape on.

A few weeks later the tape arrived with a tape and a hadnwritten note.  Christy explained that he no longer had a copy and instead he re-recorded the album in his kitchen as well as he could remember it.  It was done in one take with Christy talking between the songs.

Queen were exeptional, but they are not Queen without Freddie, so this disapoints me a lot.

If they wanted a form a new band after Freddie died they should have done the decent thing and do it like New Order did, let the name go and let it be remembered for the band that it was.

How can you compare Queen with New Order. New Order are a class act pure and simple. Queen this quite silly, over the top, ludicrous glamish rock band. There is only one winner.

Are they gonna call it 'Right fred's Dead'

as ridiculously late as i am i just want to point out new order were a great band but joy division were miles better . . . new order - turn was amazin

Squiderooney, if it weren't for Downloads, or the Internet, I'm afraid a band like The Courteeners wouldn't be known. I heart the Courteeners! Album 7th, gig 10th

I disagree, if you're good enough you'll get found.

Plus, i never said anything about the internet...myspace is alright for listening to new bands, but i just don't download myself.

Are you going to the courteeners gig at hmv in the sixth?

In the olden days you'd find out about bands listening to Tommy Vance, reading the inkies and spending too many weekend afternoons in basement record shops.  And it used to be all trees around here.

That they better start assembling the boys from the fort.
And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight,
'Cos there's gonna be riot down in Trumpton Tonight.
