Gelson gave the ball away carelessly at times, and Corluka made a shocking error of judgement for their goal, yet no one is suggesting they played badly. Quite the opposite in fact. Ireland won the ball a plenty in midfield, was always looking to receive the ball and to get forward. For me he was our best midfielder. I think some people have made up their minds about him, maybe because of his issues off the pitch,  and because of that only see the bad. There have been times when he's irritated me, when it seems like he couldn't care less, but I can't criticise him for Sundays performance. Far from it.

And on that note, I'd just like to say how well I thought Elano played as well. When I say well, I mean you have to put it in context with how he'd been playing recently. Maybe this is the wrong thread for this but, it just seems a good follow on from your post.

i thought Elano was much better on Sunday too. He seemed more confident.

I reckon he feels more confident when Johnno's playing.

I'd agree with that. I think playing against tottenham helped too, coz they're not a team that is over physical.

I'm trying not to allow myself to believe thats the case as I so badly want him to be good against Bolton!

Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking when I hear the silly things that you say

Even if it is the case and he gets tightly marked against Bolton, he should use it to benefit the team by dragging his marker out wide and leaving the space for our midfield runners to exploit.
