He did give the ball away sometimes in this game, but if some of you remember he made a pass that would have connected with Castillo in front of the net instead Benji accidentally thought the pass was for him and intercepted it. If it weren't for that this whole board would be talking about that pass and how it was beautiful and what not. The thing is that him and Elano are our creative midfielders that are called on to make some dangerous passes that could result in a big play or just turn the ball over. I agree that he has played like shit many times this year, but overall I feel he is a good player that will only improve and contribute to the squad.

obviously hes a good squad player but i think he should be working WITH elano and trying to match him so that then once elano leaves us for ac milan or who ever he decides to join . . . we will always have ireland to replace him very well

People keep saying stuff like this. But why would somebody like that want him, on the basis of two months decent form?

Yep. I don't agree with you about Elano squidge

Apparently there was a caller on 1152 before who said we should have a clear out in the summer. The three players they wanted out were:

1) Gelson - what the fuck? He's a very good player, and should be allowe to develop in the team. He has a lot of potential this kid, and he's doing a good job for us i think. He can go far with us, and i see no reason for him to go at all.

2) Caceido - even more what the fuck? Been here less than two months, not really been on the pitch that much...what on earth are we expecting from him? Clearly this caller was a know nothing twat

3) Elano - i am beginning to think i wouldn't mind this...if we made a profit. £10m and i'd say yes to be honest. I guess a lot of people will disagree with me. Don't get me wrong - i do like him, but he needs to redisvoer that form from early on in the season. I know players take time to settle, but surely it can't be right that somebody makes a blistering start at a new club, and then just goes completely off their game. He seems to have gone backwards. I still think he's class when he's on form, but i reckon at £10m, making £3m profit on him, we'd be doing decent business.

Sorry for thread hijack Danny

Yep. I don't agree with you about Elano squidge.

For the first 3 Months he was proberbly the best player in the premier league. Everyone was raving about him. Then he got injured and when came back city where not playing to well, johnson was out who he was linking up with really well also. He also was geting man marked alot as teams knew if they stopped him they stopped us as he was our playmaker.

Henry, drogba, pires to name a few had a bad start to english football but you would'nt see Wenger or jose selling them because they had a bad patch.

Just wait untill next season when we have more quailty players and elano won't be targeted as much because we will have more quality player's for them to worry about he will be even better.

Yeah i mostly agree with you...apart from the part about him being the leagues best player for 3 months, i'd say it was more like 3 games (Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Birmingham) in October when he was shit hot. I don't want to sound like i'm getting on his back, and i'm not really saying we should look to seel, but i do think he has his price, and for me £10m would do.

You're probably right about when we have more quality though, maybe he'll be able to shine more. Makes sense.

From Manchester with love

Elano was better, not quite found early season form again yet but he was much improved. I thought Gelson and Castillo were our best MF's yesterday though.

Once again Gelson was very good. Just read Squidger's earlier post about the clown on the radio phone in saying we should get rid. WTF?!?! Was in the pub a month or so ago and some guy was dissing Gelson. Managed to convince him otherwise by the end of the night. I personally think he'll be world class in a couple of years, after all, he's only 21. I can see him developing his game and becoming a similar player to Viera.

Gelson is getting better with each game, I have a lot of confidence in the guy. Presumably these are the same people who would like to see us sell Elano and Caceido...the mind boggles. World is full of idiots.

Agreed although he was given a bit more room by the Spuds than most teams have allowed him lately.

I thought Ireland had a good game though.

Avoid, rather than check. Check, rather than hurt. Hurt, rather than maim. Maim, rather than kill. For all life is precious, nor can any be replaced.

Maybe they didn't see him as a threat due to his recent form?

That's just laughable though isn't it?  How old is he? 19, 20? Played in a handful of games for us. Yeah, let's sell him.

I dont think I would be far off by saying he has played around 30 minutes first team football. Fools.
