Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas has re-opened the row over Martin Taylor's challenge on Eduardo by labelling his three-match ban 'unfair'.

While Croatia international Eduardo is unlikely to feature for The Gunners this year after suffering a double leg break under Taylor's challenge, the defender has sat out Birmingham's last two outings through suspension.

Fabregas feels the mandatory three-game ban for a red card in Taylor's case was insufficient as his team-mate could well be out of action for up to 15 months.

Intent

The Spanish playmaker feels Taylor intentionally went out to harm Eduardo, although he concedes that unless he admits his guilt he will never be handed a lengthy punishment.

"Of course I blame him," he stated. "He did it and he knows why he did it.

"Of course he is not going to say he did it on purpose, he will never say that.

"But a very good player is injured for a year and the player who committed the tackle is suspended for three little games. It is very, very unfair."

The punishment system is totally unfair though, so he does have a point.

How can Taylor's tackle on Eduardo merit the same punishment as Petrov's gay little kick against Everton?

I dont think taylor went out to harm eduardo it was just mis timed and eduardo was a little quick for him. With petrov there was intent although he missed, if Petrov was going to swing a boot like that he may awell have done a good job of it, he wouldn't of got anymore punishment. Thems the rules. Unless its an extraordnary case (thatcher) the FA wont do fuck all.

bring back SWP!

Petrov's kick was intentional. I don't believe that Taylor meant to do anything other than win the ball. For me the same punishment is fair enough.

Intent should only be part of the issue. The potential to cause harm should be the main basis of any punishment IMO.

Mido deserved to go.  It was no way deliberate, but players should take more care on the pitch.  He did boot the bloke in the head.
