| I'd just like to point out that all Bassman has done has share with us some office banter. The views expressed on this forum are not necessarily the views that we actually have in the real world. The expressions some of us have used are tongue in cheek. Therefore, I would like to apologise to other posters who didn't see it this way and couldn't take it upon themselves to understand that on other threads, I behave in the exact same childish, sometimes witty manner and have taken me to be a raging homophobe. I can assure you that this is not the case.
I don't like George Michael simply because he takes drugs and then goes out driving his motor.
Oh yeah, and because he's a bummer.

I don't really see what the problem is with homophobia. As long as its done covertly, then you can't really criticise someone for their likes and dislikes. Overt homophobia is probably as offensive to some people as overt gayness is to others, isn't it? Is "gayness" a word? Controversial! It isn't a matter of likes and dislikes really is it? It's a matter of (in)tolerance...and discriminating against people based on their life choices. It's a despicable characteristic in a human towards other humans, as is any discrimintion.

If people don't like gays, then that's their prerogative. There only becomes an issue when some of those people use their bigotry as an excuse for vindictive behaviour. Same with racism, sexism, ageism or whatever. Its human nature to dislike things you don't feel comfortable with. And is it homophobic to make a joke about George Michael being gay?

That fact that people would feel uncomfortable around a gay person is ridiculous. I know what you mean about it not being a problem until people start with vindictive behaviour, and i do agrre with you to a point. I know people have. and are entitles to, their opinions and all that, but i just find it disgusting that people can dislike someone on that basis.

] That fact that people would feel uncomfortable around a gay person is ridiculous. To you maybe, but many people feel like that. You shouldn't think any worse of them for it.

I can accept some things said as a joke that clearly aren't meant to be offensive. I know many people feel like that...that doesn't make it ok. Just like many people find if acceptable to beat children...just because a lot of people think it's ok doesn't mean it is. I wouldn't say i dis-like somebody is homophobic, but it would knock them down in my estimations.
