Shucks Bert, I'm almost your age. But in my line of work, spreadsheets have almost become a recreational pasttime.

Ooo, final of university challenge, and a Stephen Hawking documentary later.

I don't know if I'm more pissed off that Sheffield lost*, or that an Oxbridge team won. Too many dodgy history and literature questions for my liking. And their captain was a knob.

* I've been at Sheffield for six years now (degree and PhD), so they're my 'home team' as it were.

I was rooting for Christchurch, purely because Sheffield were cheating imho.  They had a septic (who was rubbish), but also two PhD students.  No way should postgrads be allowed...

CC captains trousers were the best ever though.

Unfortunately, I think eighth is where we are likley to finish. It's very tight so a few points here and there make all the difference. Unfortunately, we've be leaking points here and there, which makes a big difference too.

And then there is the  fact that those darned spuds ruined a lot of fun by winning the League Cup.

I'll give you an update each Monday until either the season ends or my interst dies.

personally I'm happy with eighth - it's a good start

Well, I don't know about the rest of it but I can recommend the engineering bit. I've been here over six years now, so it can't be too bad. If he likes real ale or grimy rock clubs then I can vouch for the quality of those activities too.

Brilliant climbing crags in easy reach too.

If we were to end up in the Intertoto, would the games be played midweek or at weekends. I don't care about Europe tbh, I think this season is consolidation, let's push on next season.

Having said that, it is nice to see us up there and battling

The problem with us this season is that we are giving up points so easy against small teams. Which basically explains that why we are 8th now!

One two legged playoff is all we would have to play at the end of july. As the english teams are seeded.
