the papers have gone for him properly today, so i'm reckoning that if he loses tonight he could be on his way already. Any ideas as to a replacement? Scolari just signed up another four years didn't he. I really wouldn't put it past the FA to try to buy out his contract you know. Any way some of the lovely quotes from the papers....

'Steve McClaren cracked for the first time as England boss last night - as he blasted critics of his Euro flops. Macca reacted angrily to the suggestion he and assistant Terry Venables were at odds over the reason why Stewart Downing was axed from the European Championship qualifying defeat in Croatia' - The Sun.

'The affair, which surely need not have been allowed to seem so significant, has revealed McClaren struggling to cope with the scrutiny that many predecessors in the post, including Venables, have weathered' - The Guardian.

'Clearly rattled, a contrast to the man who usually appears heavily scripted for his public utterances, McClaren then came out fighting in defence of his team and particularly Robinson' - The Daily Telegraph.

'He walked into the conference room with that trademark smile and remained on the charm offensive when he then announced his team. But what then followed was something he did not anticipate. Something that had him squirming in his seat and snapping at his audience....McClaren had no idea how to respond, his face contorting as his mind stumbled through a spectrum of emotions...Stunned at first, he then became increasingly uncomfortable...As McClaren is rapidly discovering, the job he took on last summer is as much about media management as managing the England team and in the last six weeks he has not proved terribly proficient at either' - The Daily Mail.

Martin O'Neill is settling in at Villa, so i couldn't see him wanting it.  We'd be struggling, like we were in the summer, after Scolari turned us down, and we ended up with the Number 1 choice all along, McClaren.

To be honest,

I prefer it when managers tell the press to feck off. He's the manager, not the likes of Harry Harris (who, if I met face to face, would have his lungs ripped out through his throat). All the press do now is try and wind people up. They don't report, they gossip.

Goin for a meal instead! I don't five two shiny shites about England. I suppose (and it's shameful to admit it) that i am a fairweather supporter of England. I only really care about major tournaments and big games. Don't get me wrong i would naturally prefer to them to win and be the best team in the world and do the nation proud, but i wouldn't be overly bothered if we never won another game. Tonght my only interest is Micah Richards performance!

I would also laugh if we got beat!

From Manchester with love
