Manchester City defender Richard Dunne is considering buying out the last 12 months of his contract so he can leave the club this summer. (Mirror)

Are these the actions of someone who wants to leave the club?

Vassell and Eriksson lead praise for Mr Reliable

12/02/2008 15:45

As was reported after the historic derby victory on Sunday, skipper Richard Dunne very nearly missed the game due to illness, but as Sven-Goran Eriksson and Darius Vassell agree - the captain didn’t let his side down.

Sven told us how he almost had to do without Dunne at Old Trafford: “It was very close. Only on the morning of the game we knew he would play.

“Richard didn’t go to the hotel on Saturday night, he was in bed and had a fever and a bad throat. The doctor went to see him and on Saturday night I thought he would not play.

“But at 10am on Sunday morning he turned up and said: ‘I’m ready.’ That’s fantastic – that’s the captain. He was incredible during the game and he was all over the pitch.

“It’s right to talk about the captain, although we shouldn’t just talk about individuals, but all of them. It was a huge task they performed out there together and they helped each other with a lot of spirit.”

Another player who covered every blade of grass again and opened the scoring was Darius Vassell.

Of his skipper, he added: “You can’t knock him for anything. He’s a great leader and a great captain.

“To go out there and play with him in the team is a great boost to any of the players. All credit to him, he did well at Old Trafford and was a rock at the back, as usual.

“He’s Mr Reliable, I know that, but it takes some doing.”

I think not.

I know, but how thick do you have to be to believe it?

Let's look at the facts shall we?

1. He's captain of the club.

2. He plays every minute of every game he's available for.

3. He is getting praise from everybody at the club and elsewhere in the media.

4. Micah has just signed a new contract and the two of them are now widely regarded as the best CB pairing in the league.

5. He put in a fantastic performance against the rags, and he was ill.

Yet surprise surprise the Faily Mirror (nuff said) choose to ignore these. It is without a shadow of doubt the worst newspaper, if it could be called that, available.

Dunne to join top earners at Man City
tribalfootball.com - January 20, 2008

Manchester City captain Richard Dunne is set to become one of the club's top earners.

The News of the World says the Republic of Ireland defender, 28, wants to put his signature to a £45,000-a-week four-year contract.

That will tie him to City for the remainder of his career - and earn him a lucrative testimonial.

City boss Sven Goran Eriksson sees Dunne as a cornerstone of his defence alongside Micah Richards.

The new deal would double Dunne's money as City reward him for both his loyalty and performance levels.

But the new agreement will disappoint former Eastlands boss Kevin Keegan, who had earmarked Dunne as one of his first Newcastle signings.

why didn't he sign yet???

He is worth more by the way.

He won't go as he loves the club, even if he did though it wouldn't be the end of the world as Corluka and Richards would be a fantastic centre of defence though.  If i was Richard Dunne i would have a look at Distin who went on to "bigger and better things" and see that its not always better to leave the club!
