Now then - where are all the people who I have had to endure over the past few weeks having a go at Stephen Ireland? He has barely ever had a bad game for City when seems to be a bit of a scapegoat - and yesterday he was superb and Man of the Match in my opinion. It says something when we didn't miss Elano and some of the runs he made were fantastic - just take a look at the first goal.
Ireland is home grown and we should be as proud of him as we are Micah Richards, Michael Johnson, Nedum Onuaha, Danny Sturridge and the rest of the boys.
I think Ireland has what it takes to be a very, very good player and what we saw yesterday was him playing in his correct position in the middle of the park instead of wide right where he has spent most of this season. Brilliant performance in my opinion.

Having said all that - his hair was even more ridiculous then ever yesterday!!

All in all he had a great match yesterday and a lot of the media named him man of the match, not undeservedly. He does still play quite a few wayward passes though, even yesterday, but it was still a great performance.

you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass
he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

my theory is thus, a woman with no tits gets implants and thus wears bikinis just becasue she now "has them". Stevie styles his hair now becasue last year all he could do with it was a comb over. did play well though probably should of had a go instead of trying to play benjani in a couple of times though.

Ireland played a pivotal role yesterday - he created space and ran well with the ball.  I think Petrov was given a floating role - which made us more creative.  If we'de had played him on the left (all the time)he's have been predictable and marked out of the game.  Sven was our man of the match - he got the tactics spot on, when the team grew in confidence we played fluent and positive passing football.

Ireland, Dunne, Micah, Vassell, Hammann, all had great games - I just had a little panic when Sven brought Sun on - he had a few good touches and the nerves settled down again.

C.T.I.D. (then some)

Ireland played as well as the rest of the team, does do some stupid passes though, should keep it simple at times.

Ireland is class, he is not a right winger though which is why his performances are not always the best.  With Elano suspended Ireland could play in the middle and he was very good.  The only thing is he seems reluctant to shoot when he is just outside the box.  It can be very frustrating.

Man City's Stephen Ireland (left) and Darius Vassell (right) congratulate Benjani after his goal in the 2-0 win over Man Utd

Benjani also cannot believe Ireland's hair.....

I still thought he gave the ball away cheaply yesterday. But his performance was an improvement on recent weeks, I'll give him that.

Yes, all right.. Christ Almighty! It's like walking down a corridor and answering the door in Nazi Germany!
