you know, you know, if a feller named Monroe never fathered bluegrass he would still be unrecognised as the grand wizard of speed metal

| Burnage Blue (14/11/2006)
Sco (14/11/2006) I was in standing on Saturday and there were people smoking all around, despite the large no smoking signs.I was there on Saturday too and noticed a couple of people having cigs in the audience, but refrained from smoking in there becuase of the rules. Although I think maybe they could make a section of one of the bars a smoking area, even if it's just until the ban comes in and we're all better prepared for it. I was also there on saturday, and smoked right through the gig, despite the large no smoking signs. It was spliffs though, so that's alright. I still don't know why I was there though. Mrs Barber announced the previous weeek that she'd got us tickets, I assumed she really liked them so i didn't question it for a moment. Just as the band were coming on stage she didn't look particularly excited. "Do you actually like this band?" I asked. "Not really," she replied, "the singles are alright I suppose." So we watched a full set by the Magic Numbers, who neither of us really like that much. After watching Muse the previous night I found them to be a bit insipid and boring. And just to add my twopenneth to BB2's debate, the Apollo is a fucking great venue, Magic Numbers or no Magic Numbers. Its perfect for pretty much any type of show. It manages to feel massive and intimate at the same time. You should try the upstairs bar BB2 - its usually a bit quicker up there. Failing that just sack the booze off completely and do acid. Or glue.

They don't police it when people light up on the concourses anyway and that's already illegal, so it won't happen. Quite like the Apollo myself, been to a couple of concerts there and liked it, and alos was a good venue for Jimmy Carr the other week.

Smoking in the concourse IS permited, it's smoking in the ground that isn't.

| Don't mind the Apollo, personally.
I went to see Pantera there in 1994 when I didn't know any better. They blew the roof off the place.
As for the ale prices, get there a little earlier and go to the Apsley Cottage around the corner, we did a couple of years ago and met Dave Gorman, whose Googlewhack show we were going to see. Funny, funny guy.
Shame he's a ginner.
