There's an interesting article in 4-4-2 this month about the death of the "Strike Partnership", what with teams either playing 4-5-1 or rotating 4 strikers.  There's a little snippet about the possibility of 4-6-0 with no strikers but a series of midfield marauders (almost a Tribe called quest album).  I'm not sure I like that idea but I'd definitely like to see it in action once.
