| Boro are just a graveyard for strikers, they have never had a striker above mediocre! I can't see the appeal in the club to be honest... Especially when Roma were reported to be interested.

| Afonso Alves' record transfer to Middlesbrough is being investigated by FIFA. World football's governing body have received an official complaint from Paolo Almeida, Alves' former agent, claiming unregistered agents completed the 27-year-old Brazil striker's move to Teeside last week. He also alleges Boro have been misled over the £14million signing's age. Almeida claims the player carries two birth certificates, with different ages. Almeida said: "This is the most crazy transfer I have ever known. "I am the official agent. I have a signed contract with Alves, which states I am entitled to five per cent of the transfer fee. "This contract between the player and me has been officially recognised by the Brazilian Consulate and has a stamp on it from the Brazilian authorities." Alves backed out of a proposed move to AZ Alkmaar at the last minute to join Boro. AZ have also asked FIFA to intervene. It is claimed AZ will hand documents of two different passports and copies of his two birth certificates to FIFA as evidence. Pim de Vos, Alves's lawyer during his recent transfer wrangle, said: "Afonso can't help it. He can't read and write. He does not speak English. He does not control anything in his life apart from a football on the pitch." There is no suggestion of wrong-doing by Boro.
