I read that FA have powers of special dispensation where required and it could still go through. Can't say I was that excited abouty this one anyway, Yes he's been good this season but last year and year before he only scored a handful of goals. Not quite the Diego Milito, Adriano, Gilardino type striker that I had in mind. Agreed. But he'll still be here when we get a player of that calibre in the summer. If he does sign, his (potential) goals could get us into a position in the league whereby attracting those sorts of players would be easier. Whatever people think of Benjani (I'm not a huge fan myself) but he's definitely a lot better than what we currently have. Sturridge ultimately looks a very good prospect, but if you compare Benji to our senior strikers you'll see how poor we are up front. Maybe so, but was/is it worth paying £8m on a 29 yo just to tide you over? I have my doubts. It's relative to how much kitty Sven is being given. Maybe, but Franks fundage isn't limitless. I think Benjani was a last resort and deep down Sven knows the deal falling through was the best thing. Possibly, but I still think he'd improve us in the short term. If we had an idea of what Sven can spend I'd be more inclined to agree with you. I'd hate to think the money going on Benjani would be less money for a top striker in the summer.

| Having thought about it I was quite glad we didnt sign him. Pompey are getting a much better younger player for less money.
It just feels like we are getting a shafting although he is better than what we have. If paying over the odds for him got us into europe it would be worth it.
I cant see the Premier League sanctioning this. Rules are rules if the paperwork didnt show up hes still there player......We cant complete the deal today think of all the legal ramerfications if his signing means we take a european place of the likes of liverpool etc......
can you imagine what would happen.... |

| I think Pompey might actually push this through - 'Arry has already admitted that this has left them with a serious hole in their budget

| | It's been a right bloody farce from beginning to end really. Sign an Iraqi - then get told he can't play try to sign benjani - then told you haven't faxed stuff through in time. "...cups for cockups...."
Someone get a message through to Captain Snort That they better start assembling the boys from the fort. And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight, 'Cos there's gonna be riot down in Trumpton Tonight. |

| | sign a mexican who gets crippled in 2 games and an ecuadorian striker. oh and the mancini child on loan for 6 months. that's actually quite a lot of business all told, and a couple of cock ups yes, but hopefully the MP's complaining about not giving Nashat a work permit will be successful. think he was given a contract because it was recognised that others would be after him. add to that the offloading of a couple players - dickov to blackpool, the mills clowns wherever they went, coupl eof kids on loan and miller flogged (rightly or wrongly) for somewhere around a million... that's quite busy. |
