City working on new faces before Thursday's deadline

29/01/2008 14:44

Sven-Goran Eriksson says that City are working hard to bring in new faces before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night.

Speaking at his midweek press conference ahead of the Wednesday night’s visit to Pride Park, the Manager revealed that he has two additions to his squad in mind and said,

“We’re still working, we’re trying with two players at the moment but we know that time is running out. It’s very difficult with the really big clubs, they don’t want to release their great players at the moment.

“It’s not a question of money, it’s more a case of if they release someone they have to find a replacement and I can understand that. If we want to take another striker, he has got to be very good for now and for the future as well.”

Sven also confirmed that Georgios Samaras has joined Celtic on loan , and of the departing Greek striker he added,

“It’s good for George, he’s gone to a good club, he can play in the Champions League and he wants to play for his country in the European Championships.”

Despite the departure of one striker and no new faces as yet, Sven refuted suggestions that his squad was beginning to look thin and he said,

“We’re not running out of players, we have Sturridge of course, that’s like signing a new player. Bojinov is training as well, I’m hoping he’ll be available quite soon and that’s like having a new member of the squad around as well.”

I'd prefer the 'We tried but it just didn't happen, sorry folks' approach

Hmmm.

"it’s more a case of if they release someone they have to find a replacement and I can understand that."

Errr, what have we just done. Twice.

we'll be fine.

We will be fine, don't get me wrong, probably not the dream of breaking the big four up, but at least no relegation battle to worry about. It'd be just sad to see a cracking front 9 go to waste.

Mpenza, Bojinov, Castillo, Vassell, Sturridge, Etuhu.

We arent desperate, esp as we've only played with one up front all season. I'm not worried. we have lost Samaras and Bianchi, two players who didnt get in the team when fit and have brought in Castillo who will be back in a month and will also gain Bojinov who will be class.

Cool Cool Coolio...

Didnt we sign elano, garrido, corluka and boji in the matter of hours? I hope we do the same on thursday, 2 or 3 signings and sven sits there with a big fat smile on his face.. aswell as the fans.

i'm the same. but at the start of the season i'd have taken top ten, i think i might have even predicted 14. so just cos we got a great start doesn't mean i expect us to win the league. yet.
