What he's been offered is more than sensible.  As has been pointed out in at least one article, that is still a phenomenal amount for a teenager.

he is not a teenager, he is an international.

Err, the two aren't mutually exclusive, you know.  Which is why he's being offered £50k a week, which is a hell of a lot more than most teenage players.  It wasn't that long ago he was being paid £5k a week.

You are sayin he is a teenager hence he should not get so much money.

But you could also argue if he is already an international at this young age, he deserves much more money because of his market value.

And great young players have a higher market value than old great players

He's still relatively inexperienced, his time will come to work his way up to the kind of figures being bandied about, by helping City get regular qualification for Europe, thus generating the kind of income that can more reasonably fund such salaries.  The amount he is being offered is only slightly less than that earned by Dunne, who is also an international but vastly more experienced and is the captain.  Paying huge amounts of money to keep Micah isn't as straightforward as funding the salary of a single player, as other players in the squad will start to demand parity, or at least a figure relative to that earned by the top players.  Don't tell me you don't laugh at the likes of West Ham and Newcastle desperately offering even the most mediocre players huge sums of money, and where does it get them?  I'd much rather we kept things reasonable, not try to run before we can walk and not overstretch ourselves.  If Micah is not happy earning £50k a week at the age of 19, and wants to spit his dummy about it (not that I believe that is what he is doing anyway) then I think we can and should sell him on, no matter how much I like him as a player and want him to stay on and try to achieve things with City.  The figure of £50k a week with the promise of future wage rises depending on success seems more than reasonable to me.

There is just one big weakness in your argumentation. Micah is not a mediocre player. Not at all.

Of course it will make it hard to keep the other salaries low.

It is a dilemma. If City wants to become a top team it can't do without Micah and there a lot of clubs that would pay him the amount of money he wants.

I would keep him at nearly all costs.

that's why I said 'even the most mediocre players'.  I too would love to keep him, but if his demands get too big for the amount we can reasonably expect to pay at this stage, we cannot be held to ransom.  If his ego is kept in check he may accept the £50k a week (and be among the highest paid players) and be happy with that, but right now there are a few clubs who could realistically pay more than us, and that will always be the case until we are genuinely competing with the 'big boys'.

if micah doesnt wanna accept our offer why not just trade him to one of europes big clubs and get one of their players, maybe a ibrahimovic swap deal? or an eto'o straight swap? maybe even a drogba straight swap. the one area we have depth in is at the back put charlie at cb and bring ned in and presto problem soved, and we get a decent player in return. He is a good player but he has a few years to prove he is a lasting contributor and 50k a week sounds fair enuf to me

I agree. If he doesn't want to sign then sell him and buy two or three players with the proceeds. We'll be a better team for it.

This just disgusts me. 50k per week is just silly money. if he wants more than that, it shows him to be a cheeky fekker and ill advised. so if this is true, it's time to get shot and cash in.
